Well I finally got around to painting my first body. It didn't come out bad. The only thing that really screwed up was the paint bleed(SP?). Maybe I didn't wash the body that well. I made sure the masks were pushed down a few times before I painted. well here is some pictures any tips would be helpful. Thanks!

i hope my next body comes out atleast that good, i say u did a good job on it.

Here is one tip, make sure u REALLY clean the body...my friend didn't do it on his and well...it came out nasty looking

yeah, make sure you prep your bodies thoroughly (scrub, alcohol, etc.) then make sure the masks are down solidly. If its cold where you are, or if the masks aren't flexible, then use a hairdryer/heatgun or bright lamp to warm them up, and then burnish them down good.

Every body gets better.

I have also just started painting and the best tip I can give is to take your time and do very very thin coats. This way you dont have to worry about paint running or getting caked up in one spot. THis will also help you if your masks arn't down completely. Also make sure the paint is completely dry befour you remove the mask so you dont get any paint run or anything. I hope this helps you out some and the body looks great.

i have a quick question, should u cut out everything before or after u paint the body? i would think before u do so u dont scratch the paint but i see alot of ppl do it after...does it matter?

I would recommend cutting the extra off AFTER you finish painting....this is so you don't drip paint on the exterior (especially when using spray cans)

I'm still undecided. Each has its own advantage.

If you don't cut it first, then the body is quite a bit more rigid as you handle it which makes it easier to paint, mask, etc. If you cut it out first, then you don't risk scratching a painted body.

I'm using a dremel to cut all my curves now. Makes it pretty easy, and as long as you control the dremel you won't scratch up the car's inside paint or outside polish.

What bit do you use on the dremel?.....thats a good idea you have.

Its about a half inch long sanding drum. Probably about a 60 count coarsness, but 100 grit would work as well.

I personally always cut out the body before painting. It prevents any potential scratches to a finished body, and also allows for easier masking of bodies before painting.

Thats what i was thinking...o well, if it doesnt turn out good i learned atleast something! i will try the cutting out before...if that doesnt go well my next body i do it after.

I have always painted and then cut my body and wonce it is fitted on the car and all the cutting is done. Then i remove the overspray film. thats how i do it and if you take your time and dont rush then you wont scratch the paint.
