One time its ok to get your car wet...
So these days it seems like lots of people are painting true flames...it seemed to me it was time for something different. I painted this HPI 200mm Dodge Viper body last weekend. Let me know what you think. I was thinking about painting some more this style.

Yeah, depending on what happens with this one (currently up on ebay) I would like to paint more. It's hard to tell what type of bodies are going to sell best.

Im not a huge fan of the tear style flames, however I think it looks pretty good. I dont think the water drops would be that hard to do, just time consuming.

Looks good! I like the water drops!
BTW water drops are really easy... you just put some drops on the body, spray a coat of paint, let it all dry and the water evaporate then back it. That's the basics to it anyhow.

well whip that water off of it and take another pic. Then i'd be happy to tell you what I think. LOL
Is this really how to do it? Very interesting. So how did you do the flame part. I've never seen one quite like that.
Man seriously that is really cool, nice work.

The flame part is done with a special type of paint and suran wrap wrinkled to your liking to create the designs within.

eyecandy, yes this can be done on your boats where you would paint them normal instead of backwards like the lid I painted. Here's a sample done on a guitar we recently sold.

That is so cool. I would really like to know the steps involved on painting the water drops. I experimented yesterday and it really didn't work out, looked horrible.
I am also learning with my dads old air brush (never really used it). I did my first body a week or two ago. It came out great for a simple test/practice body.

No...ended up no one even bid on it. [&o] Oh well I guess hopefully it's just because no one wanted the viper. It's kind of a crap shoot picking something you hope will sell. From what I hear the guys racing on-road are fairly picky about what body they run. It's currently for sale at my LHS $75 obo. If nothing else I'm hoping it draws attention and then people can just buy the body they want from the LHS and then just pay me for the paintjob.

$75 might be a little high even though its good. Maybe lower it to 40-50.
I also don't know how long you spent on it. If I only knew the steps involved. If there was only someone who could tell me. Are you going to post steps or not? Damn it, you can't show off and not reveal the secret.[>:] Your killing me here.
LOL just kidding.

I just don't see why anyone would pay that much for a body. A body will only last about 1 or 2 race seasons (about a year) with wear and tear. Although I race offroad so my bodies wear down faster IMO.
You could easily do it yourself for a lot cheaper price.

I agree that $75 seems a little high, and yes those who can do it themselves can do it cheaper. The lid itself costs $25-30, then factor in paint supplies, in the end I don't get very much money for my time spent. And yeah the style of racing you do is a huge factor, a body on my Jato won't last long, but a carpet racer body will last quite a while.
