Losi 8ight paint job
Just finished building and painting my 8IGHT. Decided to go "old school" with the paint job. I got the inspiration when I saw a pic in this forum (an EIGHT with silver and orange with a sticker that said SWANNY or something like that). I added my colors and 2 large stripes down the middle matching the V-Spec's color. I faded a bunch of little "8"s in the two stripes. Used liquid mask and it's all freehand (except for the stripes which I used tape).
Pretty happy with the job considering I didn't bother using my airbrush on this job.

RE: Losi 8ight paint job
thanks guys
used Tamiya's hobby tape (the yellow one) and applied it before the liquid mask. gave 2 heavy coats of liquid mask with 3 hours in between coats and then let it sit overnight before cutting out.

forgot to answer you on the paint
All Pactra Racing Finish
a quick breakdown of process for those who care to know
wash inside the body with dishwashing soap and dry
1- draw design and ID steps on overspray film on top
2- Apply Tamiya tape for stripes and Window masks (see Pics above)
3- Apply liquid mask (used Hobbico)
4- Trim around Windows mask for black borders (trim the liquidmask) + remove liquidmask to prepare for painting the window borders
5- Trim liquidmask along the outline on the wavy design + remove liquidmask to prepare for painting black
6- Trim liquidmask anywhere you have lines on your design because once the 1st coat goes on, you won't be able to see where to trim with your hobby knife
7- Paint Metalic Black RC 280 (2 light coats and let dry for at least 2 hours)
8- Back up the black with Indy Silver RC 262 (1 coat)
9- Remove Tape to prepare to paint the Blue stripes (I'm leaving out the steps to paint fade the little 8s that I added in the stripes)
10- Paint Metalic Blue RC 265 (3 light coats and let dry for at least 2 hours)
11- Back up the Blue with with Indy Silver RC 262 (1 coat) (Makes the Blue POP out)
12- Remove liquidmask to prepare to paint the Silver
13- Paint Silver RC 262 (2 light coats and let dry for at least 2 hours)
14- Back up the Silver with with Sprint White RC 257 (1 coat) (Makes the Silver POP out)
15- Remove liquidmask to prepare to paint the Yellow
16- Paint Fluo Yellow RC 284 (2 light coats and let dry for at least 2 hours)
17- Back up Yellow with Fluo White RC 290 (important to get that fluo POP) (1 coat and let dry overnight)
18- Remove liquidmask to prepare to paint the white
19- Paint Sprint White RC 257 (2 light coats and let dry for at least 2 hours)
20- Back up White with Indy Silver RC 262 (1 coat and let dry for 2 hours)
21- Backup the whole body with 2 coats of Black for final protection
When using Fluo colors, once your all done you gotta let the body sit for a week or so. These colors seem to be very soft and any handling from the inside can show traces done (fingerprints, scuff marks done from the inside) I actually hate using them for that reason because it can ruin your whole job.
Hope this helps and don't forget to take off the overspray film before putting on your stickers
