12z does not use as much charge. A fully charged stock 2200 mah battery can allow 10 8-minute flights. One can carry a charged spared battery and swap it in at the field. This is like a spare battery for your camera.

Futaba should bring out their own version of the iPad that plugs into the USB port on the 14MZ, imagine a full colour touch screen about 6 times bigger for setting up your planes

Great idea. Maybe someone from Futaba will see your post and do this.

Maybe this is where the update 14MZ or future 18 is going.

Time will tell, but I think I will wait to see what is next before I buy a new transmitter.

What does the S.Bus system do?
The innovative Futaba S.Bus system lets you unleash your flight system's full potential and cut down on cable clutter at the same time. It uses digital serial data communication technology to transmit control signals between your receiver and servos.

A single S.Bus cable can carry signals to as many channels as your transmitter can handle. You no longer have to worry about plugging in the wrong servo to the wrong channel, because each servo knows what channel it is dedicated to in advance.

SBD-1 S.Bus Decoder Cables allow the use of existing analog and digital servos, too. By providing today's pilots with tomorrow's technology, the Futaba S.Bus system is nothing short of revolutionary – and the revolution's only beginning.

In Japan it's supposed to be out on September 2011, but in Germany they say May, so we'll see.

Despite this being a wild guess based on nothing, that would make the street price much less. Keep in mind that the MSRP on a 14MZ is $3,500USD but it sells for $2,300USD. So if the guess is right the 18MZ would cost less than the 14MZ does!!

Hi guys,

The 18MZ is very exciting for us to announce. For the North American market we expect to see this this fall, around October. The Futaba facebook page is going to be the source for the immediate news as we learn more about this very advanced system. http://www.facebook.com/Futabarc Please join us there to be kept up to date.

and at last FASSTest will be launched at the same time and its compatible with 8FGV3.0, and 18MZ.

I suppose the 12FG name with transfer to the current 8FG, making room for a 10channel replacement of the 7C

so will we ultimately see n 2012 he following

10FG (7c replacement), 12FG (8FG renamed, 14FG(12FG updated), 16Z (new radio)  and 18MZ?

For those of us who do not have facebook accounts, and don't intend to, maybe you can start an 18MZ thread in the Futaba Radio support forum. I would be very interested in seeing what the differences are compared to my 2 year old 14mz.

I would also be interested in hearing if there will be any sort of a trade up program.

Thanks for the link. It has a good start on the information. Not sure if it needs the built in camera or not...

For its purpose, why not. Certainly doesn't take much to add one with the software out there these days, and makes it easier to take the pictures for each model. Necessary, no, but certainly not hurting anything.

A couple of tilt sensors that could plug into the TX for setting up your control throws probably would have been a bit more useful than a camera..a bit like the audio receivers that automatically equalise your surround sound system via a test microphone.

Mount the sensors, dial in XX degres of throw (even include the length of the surface if you wish to enter inches of throw at the TE) and how much expo you want, let the thing cycle the surface and done....

For people who fly only one model per day it might not be necessary, but if you bring multiple planes to the field, then the camera is a great tool, take a picture of the model, put the name, and right there at the field you can be assured it's the correct model just by looking at the screen quickly, come on, even the cheapest cell phone has a camera.

I wonder if the upcoming critics will say " I don't like the color"?

bjt_93tz, that is a great idea, Futaba as well as the other manufacturers pretty much listen to sponsored pilots, but they should also listen to the rest of the pilots, it seems like the 18MZ has enough interface conections for more peripherals, I think you should send Futaba an email with that idea, if they don't want to do anything with so be it, but it worth a try, I can imagine how cool could that be.
