Default RE: District 7 Victorville CA 1st Annual Pattern contest

Just returned from a day of practice, at the Victorvile flying site very nice field, as you can see the weather was "HOT" and winded.
Here are a few photos, should be a good turn out.

Default RE: District 7 Victorville CA 1st Annual Pattern contest

The Victor Valley RC Flyers clubs, did a fantastic job hosting there very 1st Annual Inaugural pattern contest. With 18 pilots enbarking from a cross Dist 7, Califorina, Arizona and
Utah. We were able to get in 6 rounds of outstanding flying, with FAI putting in 4 rounds of P-11 and 2 rounds of F-11 on Sunday.Despite cloudy skies in the morning, 32 mph cross
winds and 62 degree temp's, the contest was a blast, with only one mishap.A special thanks, to those out of town pilots that drove as far as 6 hours away to support the contest
Jon, Kris and Dale from Nothern Califorina, and Andrew Jesky and the Taylor family, that came from Utah. Thanks to all of you "GUYS". An to Andrew, thanks for all your help
with programing my radio. An to Greg, Kris and Jon nice job CDing and Co- CDing, and to the Victor Valley RC Flyer, thanks for hosting and "SEE YA" next year.

Wow, a great contest! It was windy but everyone handled it well. Some thoughts:

How does Andrew Jesky make 20 to 25 mph of wind look like a dead calm?

Chris (stuntflyr) flew the heck out of a Kaos 40 and won Sportsman! Way to go Chris!!

Andrew Taylor with the electric biplane looked very good, darn kids!

Chris Fitzsimmons as always flew superbly to win Masters.

Dale Olstinske flew very well to win a very competitive Advanced class.

Many thanks to the Victor Valley RC Flyers for allowing us to use their great facility and to Greg Meierhoff for CDing.

All in all, despite the wind it was a great time!

Thanks,

Are you saying that Andrew Taylor flew good? Or looked good? Perhaps both? hehe

He did fly very well. He's gonna be a huge challenge for the Masters/FAI pilots if he keeps practicing! Thanks to him and also his dad for coming out with Andrew! Was great to see some new faces and also to meet them! Andrew, awesome flying bro! Thanks for the tips. Once I get something in the air again (gotta get busy on the Opium), I have some new stuff to try out!

Jarvis, thank you for what you do once again. Always great to see the pics!

Greg, did you get rid of that cricket yet? I ain't staying with ya again till it's gone! hehe

I am very surprised at the level of flying by all with the wind conditions! You all have my respect for flying in it!

C ya next year VV!

and I don't think there was any wind related carnage.... really one plane expired due to an ejected canopy... or so I heard....

a lot of sweet planes for sure!!

To Kris, Jon, and Dale thanks once again for coming down and supporting the contest. And Jon, you're right...Andrew does make flying in the wind look like it's just a calm day! For those who never met Andrew Jetsky, besides being a top-notch FAI pilot, he is just an all-around nice person. This guy mingled with everyone at the field and went out of his way to help me program my new radio. Much appreciated Andrew! I need someone to send me Andrew Taylor's dad's e-mail address. I have some photo's I like to share with him. Now on to the next contest which will be in Riverside California in 2 weeks. If we can get the support we had at Victorville, it will be another phenomenal event. Bring your easy-up's and shades because it will most likely be hot, unlike the Victorvill contest A flyer and hotel information will be posted soon on the District 7 website..... Hope to see all of you there!

I'm envious. Looks like a great event.

I was all packed up and ready to leave Friday when work called at 4 AM (They knew I was headed for Calif.)

That killed it. When I go on alert I can't be more than 30 minutes from the Operations Center.

I was especially bummed because after driving to the Yuma contest I had an ESC go nuts and fry my entire electrical system (Castle made it right) so I ended up driving back to Gilbert, AZ. And, the contest in Phoenix was crazy rain and cold- but still had a great time.

Riverside is next up on the hope list... I have planned to attend.

Cheers,

Jim

Thanks to the Victorville crew I had a wonderful first contest. Thanks Greg, Kris and Jean, the guys that brought the and prepared the food, and the club for having us. I met so many nice people, I can't remember all of your names...but thanks.
Neat field, challenging conditions, but until the wind got to 36-40 it was pretty flyable!
Jon, thanks for nice compliments, and hope to see you all again at Riverside (I got the days off, Jarvis).
