I'd rather see FAI get rid of snap rolls. After the video I saw from the WC, to say anyone is really snapping their airplanes is a stretch, and it then just becomes a game of who can cheat it the most without getting caught. It's hardly a 'precision' maneuver.

there where very good (but very few) snappers at the worlds like Beschroner or Ulsamer from Germany...

Beschroner's snaps are 100% by the book...

And I was complaining because I wanted more snaps on a P.

Not the last time for me I'm afraid, for some strange reason I can grease through it every practice, but come competition day I almost always make a meal of it.

You can call it Susan if you like but it doesn't make it any easier to deal with!

Renegade, last fall I had problems with the figure M and found I was trying to do too much at one time. I backed off and started practicing the "parts" (small bites) of the maneuver and over several flight sessions, the "parts" became a complete "meal" as you say. If the figure M was easy, everyone would want it included in their particular class flight schedule. I, for one, am glad the figure M is part of the schedule I fly and feel between the figure M and 3 rolls reversed with all it's peices and parts serves to make me a better overall pattern flyer. Wish you well as usual_Everette

Agree with that, the M made me a better pilot for sure.

I think we can all agree that it's a manuevre you probably wouldn't spend time on unless you had to!

How about the unlimited IMAC... talk about a Snapfest.... every maneuver has a snap.. one'r'two on uplines... I think the Alternate has one maneuver with a rolling circle instead of a snapper...

One or two snaps in an entire sequence is about the right number... (in my little irrelavent and humble opinion)

Doug, I agree. Watching this video, it confused me a lot:

Perhaps I do not know nothing about snap rolls, but, I hardly believe that maneuver number four, the upline snap, is really a snap roll !!

I flew my last M on saturday and I was glad to be done with it. but now, I kinda think I'm going to miss it. It taught me a lot, and made me a better pilot.
When we're out hot-dogging at the field, we can all say "hey, watch me stall-turn into an inverted rolling half-loop!", and we'll see some raised eyebrows when we do just that.

Matt, some folks thought I was being a bit tough when I used the name "pattern hack" in another thread somewhere around here. Compared to you, I could stand to take some lessons! You are BRUTAL! But, like my old man said years ago, "if the shoe fits, wear it"! As I said earlier in this thread, the figure M maneuver has generally helped me to become a better pattern flyer. Just my thoughts, Everette

Forgive my ignorance, but is the committee banning the maneuver or something? You're all talking about the Figure "M" as if it's gone forever.

The Rolling Figure M is in the P-11 sequence that ends this year. Next year we will fly P-13/F-13 in F3A. That doesn't mean the Figure M might not come back some time in the future, OR appear in the AMA Masters schedule at some point. (evil grin)
