Chris - You're not going to make it! Dang, I was working on my calm and soothing voice so I could call for you!
Seriously, I hope to see as many D7 pattern pilots as possible at Hollister on the 17th & 18th. We WILL have fun!

Saturday was great weather, Sunday was better. Beautiful clear blue skies, temps in the 60s and 70s during the morning, barely a breeze down the runway. It doesn't get much better than that, One IC powered plane.

"Sheriff" Carter did a great CD work again. 6 flights, no misshape, great raffle..... you cannot ask more.
This is the first time we normalized to the "average score of each run" instead of the highest score of the run. I leave this to Sheriff to answer why we do this.

Wow, in post #12 looks like a lot of negative incidence in that Spark. I wonder how it flies?

Wow! Hollister 2011 is in the books. We had "freakishly" fantastic weather. Sunny and almost zero wind, temps in the 75 to 80 range. Many thanks to our raffle supporters, MPI, F3A Unlimited, APC & Tech Styles.
We flew 6 rounds with almost no hitches. Dick Belden had a bearing go south in his engine but that was the only issue. As Luke said we tried out a new variation on the scoring system by normalizing to the average score in the round as opposed to the maximum score. This means that if you just put up an absolute "burner" of a flight you can score more than a 1000 points in a round. I do think the system has potential although as with any new system there are some bugs and questions to work out.
Many thanks to all of the pilots who traveled to the contest and all of our "local" die-hards who came out to fly and have a good time! A special thanks to Dale Olstinske and his wife Joan who really came through and helped out big time all weekend but especially with our annual Friday night taco party! I would be remiss if I did not mention my wife Deborah who not only tolerates my increasing anxiety as the contest approaches but also works hard to make it a success. Thank you!
This was the 8th annual contest in honor of one of our local pattern flyers who passed away, Bob "Whip" Whitacre. One of the mainstays of our D7 pattern community, Frank Capone, had the great idea to make special trophies for this event that were actual miniature bullwhips mounted on very nice walnut plaques. He made the entire set of trophies and at the awards presentation I explained how Bob got the "Whip" nickname and then we unveiled all of the custom trophies. The pilots loved them! Frank also surprised me with a special "Whip" award that took me completely by surprise. Frank is just one of the people that make pattern such a special and unique sport. Thank you very much Frank!

RE: Hollister 9/17-9/18
It was a great experience!! I couldn't ask for better condition for doing this the first time and people were so friendly and that helped a lot to relax me to enjoy the flying. I saw lots of efforts been put into the event to make it great!
I could not thanks enough to Kevin to "little" over prepare me before the event......:-). Without meeting him at TomCat, I will be still flying my YS-170 powered Cap and Yak looking from outside of Pattern community. After touching the water with Sportsman, moving up class will be next.........will doing some more practice first right away though.
The wonderful and very unique trophy made my wife laughed when I got home............we both do think this is a great design. She thought Kevin is more like the whip (but a friendly one) than the one on trophy though......:-)

Dale, thanks a lot for the comment and encouragement!!
I will be putting on more practice and get ready to move up...........Before new plane arrive in Nov., I probably should get new set of wings for my Naptuno first for safety. How much do they charge for the new wings?

Mitch - It was a real pleasure watching you fly. In my first contest I don't think I hit the runway once! You are really flying great. Welcome to the world of pattern! I am glad you liked the trophy!

RE: Hollister 9/17-9/18
Jon, thanks for the kind words. I have always liked the pattern flying and just did not commit to jump in.........Kevin helped me to pull the trigger not only for flying pattern but also covert to electric..........both changes are terrific!!
I was so glad that I picked Hollister as my first one and I have to say I enjoyed a lot and thanks for great arrangement for the event!!
Naptuno has been a great first 2 meter for me that makes me so looking forward to the new bird, Angel Shadow, to arrive in couple of months. I will be doing a lot more practice once she is ready.
