2011 Bud Garrick Memorial Pattern Contest

If you are in D7, and you didn't make it out for this contest in Sacramento, you missed a great one!
Incredible weather (especially considering I drove through Sacramento on Thursday and it was raining lions and hyenas) awesome cameraderie, and check out the evening's barbeque + live entertainment!

And no pattern contest evening is complete without some night flying! Here D7 VP Jon Carter does a low flyby with a T-28

And some impromptu 3D Freestyle with live accompaniment by Saxman Dave!

Finally, just a personal note the pattern community once again demonstrated that they are some of the greatest people in RC. When my Osiris crashed on landing and broke off a wing, snapped the wing tube and broke the rudder servo tray, it was just a few seconds before folks were offering me Epoxy, CA, a wing tube from the raffle prize Osiris, popsicle sticks and other plywood to enable me to repair the plane before my turn in round 2. Thanks all!

More pix from the contest:-
A free BBQ dinner plus live entertainment is provided by CD Frank "Sparky" Capone. As you can tell from one of the pix, Frank aged 20 years within just a few hours from organizing this feast.

Wow, what a great day. Incredible weather and what a BBQ/ pot luck dinner. The live music was a treat and the sax player was fantastic. Lots of foamy, FlutterBy, T28 flying during dinner as the sun was setting. Dead calm and 75 degrees, INCREDIBLE!!!! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, we flew 4 rounds of pattern too

Man, look like you guys had a great time. Sorry that I could not make, I had to finish up, some of my water classes. But I'm glady that you guys are having a great time.
I hope to see all of you, at Fresno for the Dist 7 finals in two weeks, have a great Sunday.

Wow! Every year Frank Capone and Bob Obregon raise the bar for pattern contests here in D7! This year they really blew the roof off! Awesome contest, perfect weather, great BBQ dinner Saturday night, LIVE music at the BBQ dinner and great night flying!
Thank you Frank and Bob!

Thank you so much Frank and Bob for the best contest that I've ever been to. Also thanks to Peter Vogel for the night flying video.

Wow, tight race in Advanced! Given his performance with the T-28, I'm surprised to see Dale in 1st :-) :-) :-)
Thank you Frank + Bob for a great contest! Wish I could have been there both days would have allowed me to erase the round with the disastrous landing :-)
