It is now official. The Tangerine Pattern contest will be held in Apopka, Florida at the RCACF field (AKA Tangerine Field) on December 3, 4, 2011. Same place as in the past years.
We have the NSRCA District 3 Championship in November which terminates the flying season and then the Tangerine Pattern contest follows.
The Tangerine contest as you know will be counted as the first contest for the 2012 contest season.
The sanctioned application has been submitted and preparations are underway to make a fun contest this year. This year will only be AMA turn around pattern zand a two day event unlike previous years.
More will follow as time progresses, so mark you calendars and come on down. The weather should be goooood!!!!!???????.....

Hi Dave:
The decision to make the event an AMA Pattern (turn around) only came about considering that CPA would be one day and AMA pattern would be two days. After the difficulties I had last year with running 3 days of CPA and AMA, I decided that this year would be only AMA pattern.
However, if there are sufficient number of pilots desiring a one CPA event, I may reconsider and only go for one day CPA event. Bear in mind, however, that the Friday Dec 2, would be the CPA event with Dec 3, 4 being reserved for the AMA pattern. This then would make practice day on a Thursday.
I hope to see at Tangerine. Thanks for your inquiry.

Orlando,
O too would like to see a one day CPA event on Friday. Or, alternatively, dedicate Friday to CPA and Saturday to AMA and then have the final round(s) for both CPA and AMA on Saunday.

I went ahead and booked a room for 3 nights. Team Eglin will support a CPA event if it's held. At least five, possibly seven of us are planning on flying CPA, if it's offered.

OK guys:
The change has been made. It is official, there will be a "one day CPA" event on Friday Dec 2, 2011. Saturday and Sunday will be AMA turn-around.
Have to work out the details so I will be making another posting in a few days.
So begin spreading the word.
Thanks again.

OK guys, more information on Tangerine Pattern contest.
As you know, Friday Dec 3 will fly the Classic pattern planes. SPA, BPA are legal which includes tuned pipes, retracts. We will fly the current schedule as per Classic Pattern Association which is the same as we flew last year. Attached is a copy of the schedules to be flown which are Novice, Sportsman, Advanced and Masters.
We will fly one line as I do not expect too many pilots to fly Classic. We will start flying as early as possible depending on the weather and the sun. I am planning to fly four rounds, so it should be an easy and relaxing day. Contestant judging will be the norm.
In addition, AMA turn-around pattern is to be flown on Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully we can get six rounds in and leave somewhat early on Sunday.
The schedules are as they are listed on the NSRCA website ans are the current schedules being flown. The only exception is FAI which will fly the P-13 schedule. F-13 schedule will be flown due to the unfamiliarity among the pilots and may cause judging problems. Besides, the P-13 schedule is sufficiently challenging. Therefore, we will try to get as many rounds as possible for FAI.
Lunch is furnished (hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and refreshments), one meal ticket per pilot registration will be furnished upon registration.
Start practicing as this is the first contest for the 2012 season. I am getting my Black Magic trimmed out with the help of Jason. Hopefully I can be ready for the contest. Is there a schedule that is easier than the Sportsman??????
If you have any questions, e-mail to [email protected] or you can contact Larry Odom or Chris Odom or Jason Shulman and also Victor Diaz.

CORRECTIONS CORRECTIONS CORRECTION!
I have been notified of a couple of discrepancies in my last post.
1) Classic Pattern will be flown December 2, 2011 AND NOT December 3rd as stated. Please note this correction. AMA pattern will be flown December 3, 4, 2011.
2) Also, FAI WILL NOT fly the F-13 schedule only the P-13 schedule, contrary to the previous posting. Please make these notations, and I apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused.

It's only 2 weeks away. Hope you guys have been practicing, because I haven't.
I am repairing my Black Magic due to a mishap (hit a clump of grass on landing).
Anyhow, here is an update to the contest.
Friday December 2, 2011 will be flying Classic airplanes using the same schedule as last year. Look for one of my previous posts and it tells what schedules are being flown.
Saturday and Sunday Dec 3,4, 2011 will fly AMA 401-404 and AMA 406 schedule P-13 only.
Meal tickets will be given out at registration. And speaking about registration:
If you fly only Classic Pattern on Friday, fee is $20.00.
If you fly AMA, Saturday and Sunday, fee is $30.00.
If you fly both Classic and AMA (that is all the events Friday, Sat and Sun), the fee is $40.00
Registration will start on Friday 8:00 A.M. with first flight at approximately 9:30, weather permitting.
Saturday Registration starts at 8:00 A.M.
In addition the field will be open before Friday. So if you see me there you can also register.
I would like to know how many of you are planning on flying Classic. Please let me know via this forum.
Hope to see many of you at the contest. I'm planning on flying Classic if I can get my Escape finished.

Mike:
That's great.
I spoke to Vince last night. He said he will be up Saturday with his Focus. May only stay the Saturday, however.

Well, the Tangerine Pattern Contest is now in the history books.
The weather was great, comfortable temperatures, the wind, well, it was challenging at times and kept things interesting.
In summary, the Classic portion only 4 people showed up and we decided to have a practice day for AMA turn-around pattern.
Attached are the results. I am going out of town until January 2, 2012 and will try to post pictures while I am away. If I cannot, I will post them when I get back.
There were 21 pilots and only one mishap. Mike Plummer had a radio problem and his new Vanquish went in. It was recovered and apparently the problem was within his receiver.
There was a good battle in Sportsman with Cody Powell edging out Zachery and George Gordon. Another battle was in Intermediate with Gary Freeman Jr edging out Neil Rivera. In Advanced, Mike Constantine held off the charge from Victor Diaz and Houston Schweitzer. In Masters, Humberto Pomales took top honors, Steve Homenda placed second, with Dave Stoddard edged out Gary Kirby in the last round.
More to come later.
Have a happy Holidays.

E-Flight Power 160........Only way to go...Had a great time. I wanted to say that Chris and Larry Odom are both above and beyond modelers and competitors. Larry took himself out of the contest to do the scoring and Chris helped with not only judging, but lining up the judges between his rounds. Without people like this contest do not happen. THANKS TO YOU BOTH. Also Orlando did an outstanding job in keeping things running.
Had a blast.
