Having read the numerous threads on servos in this excellent site, I have just purchased 6 Hitec 5945 servos for pattern use.

I have a JR 3810 radio do I also need a servo programmer?

No not really. It does things like servo reverse, subtrim, atv etc. and you can do all of that on your Tx.

The servo programmer is only really needed when you use more than one servo per control surface like two servos per aileron for a total of four. I assume that no pattern ship uses more than one servo per surface so you should be fine.

You will find it very helpfull if you use 1 servo on each aileron and a "Y" instead of ch 2 and 6 or if you use a servo per elevator half and a "Y".
