There are two.
The first is the Sun Valley Flyers contest on Feb 23-24 and the second is May 4-5 in Apache Junction. Beginning of May cannot really be considered "spring" in Phoenix unless you live there.
You can check the www.nsrca.us for contest calendar entries. Also the link to the district 7 site will get you the data.
Have you been to the SVF contest before? I remember meeting someone over from England flying at the contest a few years ago.

Hi John thanks for the information.
I was at the SV competition a couple of years ago and if you remember it was the coldest, wettest and windiest comp I can recall flying in!
Great hospitality and pulled pork though!
My family are in Az so I was hoping to a plan visit to the US and fit in an F3A event together with the US Masters golf.
Stuff of dreams!

I will be there! I finally had time to evict the family of spiders that had made the outside of my airplane their winter home and got my airplane out to the field. What a fantastic day, mid 70s, clear blue skys. If it is anything like this weekend it will be fantastic!
See you on Saturday

Hey guys we just returned from the Phoenix,we were able to get in 4 rounds on Saturday. So that was a good thing, because on Sunday
the weather went very bad, man it was cold, with a 90 degree crosswind at about 25 mph and gusting up to 35. So the pilots voted not to
fly. So Rusty called the contest and gave out the awards, and we were gone by 9:30. we had 17 pilots, so here are the score's,and photo's
I would like to thanks, the Sun Valley Flyers for hosting, and Rusty for CDing, a great contest, an also thanks to those pilots that drove in
from out of state.

I had a great time this weekend! Wish we could have flown Sunday, but at least now Lancaster isn't the only place to get blown out! Great meeting many who I normally don't see at D-7 contests. Thanks to Rusty, Ken, Robert, Mike Greear, and the SVF club for the use of their beautiful field! Congrats to my friend Jamie Schoolcraft for his win in Sportsman. Him and Jeff had a great time competing. Got to remind myself how much of a craftsman Jeff Carder is when admiring his gorgeous Lightning. For those of you still wanting to really build a model you couldn't pick a better one.
Looking forward to Hemet in two weeks and going back to AZ for Apache Junction later this year!

Well, we took the wonderful scenery for the photos because it was the only place sheltered from the howling winds at 43 degrees. If it was warmer we might have actually tried to fly (at least there weren't going to be any full size aircraft incursions during that stuff!!!), but no one wanted to bother with it, much less be the poor victim chosen to sit and judge in those conditions!!! Too bad, it would have been great to finish up the full contest.
Thanks to Rusty, Ken and SVF for hosting the event. I had a great time flying on Friday for sure and Saturday was a fun time as well.

I second everything everyone else said. Saturday was a great day of flying, it was unfortunate we couldn't repeat it on Sunday. Today in Phoenix the winds were about 5 knots out of the north and it was crystal clear.
Thank you to everyone who came in from out of state. It was very neat to have pilots from so many different places come in. I had a fantastic time!
