400'
I don't know what the rest of u think, but I think we got problems.
400' ceiling is a big problem for pattern if things are expected to stay status quo as far as sequences are concerned. I found a calculator that converts mph to fps. 80mph is 117.33' /sec. Assuming we fly our base at 50' that leaves us 350' which takes 2.98 seconds if speed is maintained based on the above calculation.
I know 400' isn't the law argument. To a lot of flyers that we have to deal with in our clubs while practicing at home, it's not seen this way. Whether by naivety or paranoia of the faa, which is rampant in my club, even before the latest fiasco, once the members see the 400' deal in the registration process that u declare u will not breach, I can see the circle flyers which dominate most clubs demanding this of all club members.
I can see this ending my pattern participation, at least causing me big problems, unless the sequences are changed and what about the clubs who host the events?

There has never been and still is not a 400' limit for model aircraft. It came from the original AC-9157 in 1981 and was updated this year. It is still only an advisory circular. It has been a suggested altitude for those not flying at your typical RC field and it makes sense in that scenario. And if you club has questions, contact the AMA. They will be more than happy to put something in writing for your club officials.
