Landing Gear Update:

So I'm sitting here looking at my new Focus II kit.. and hmm.. this landing gear is longer than most. Pretty light too at 2.7 ounces for both gear legs together. The landing gear on the Focus II is 8" from axle to mounting plate.. long enough to clear a 22" prop on most airplanes. When you put a 2.5" wheel on this gear, I get 12.25" from thrustline to ground in a fuse-level attitude on my Supreme with no weight on the gear. So I'm going to use this landing gear for now. Cost is $45 from Piedmont Models.

Doug,

Looking that that Focus II. Do you think it could be converted to electric power without too much trouble? Particularly, would the motor and batteries fit and would the batteries be easy to change? I'm not looking for a competition plane here so weight wouldn't be a major concern of mine unless it is really heavy.

Thanks,

Wiz

Yes Mike.. it could be done easily. A little rework inside to make a battery tray and you'd be done with it. With the new batteries being shown at MWE, I think you'd even make weight.

Thanks, Doug!

After a bunch of flip-floping, (and your input) the Focus II looks like the plane I'll be getting.

Doug - we missed you this weekend in Lancaster. Did you fly the Focus II or Supreme yet?

I haven't flown either. I've been spending all my time finishing a couple of electric projects for the big electric meet here in San Diego this weekend. I'm waiting on the covering for the Supreme, and I'm looking for motivation on the Focus

Doug,

Thanks for the landing gear update. I've ordered a pair of Focus II landing gear for my Electric Mantis Ex project yesterday.
How much the Supreme fuselage weight out of the box, with the canopy and belly? I just want to be sure for making it under 11 lbs. with the 10s4p's.
BTW, my Mantis Ex (white) fuse is 26 oz. with the belly!
Thanks,

Nedim

That's about the same as mine. Sit tight on batteries though. We're going to be playing with a new version of the Li-pos from Thunder Power this weekend that you can run at 10c. This will let you run the 10s3p saving over 11 ounces. Weight will be a non-issue.

What kind of Charger do you use to charge the 10S,4P Li-Po pack? And what rate of Amps?
Regards

Schulze ISL 4-330 @ 8 amps or 1C.

Also.. I have 2 of them, so when I'm flying the Supreme, I will be charging each 5s4p separately.
