Default Material for Pattern Model

I am about to try and build my first 2x2 pattern model. I have been reading the forum about different procedures for building from vacuum bagging to laminating. Here are some of the questions that I feel that need clarification on for me.

1. What type of wings are lighter more rigid and stronger : foam core wings with sheeted 1.5 mm balsa fiber glass finish on it for painting
standard built rib wings once again sheeted and fiber glass finish for painting

Is there any advantage using carbon fiber instead of fiber glass for the outside layer on the wings ???
Can carbon fiber be painted like fiber glass???
Is vacuum bagging the best idea for putting on the fiber glass /carbon fiber laminate???
