Default Intermediate question

The humpty bump in the intermediate sequence says there are options. What are they?. Basically is it a half roll up or down or quarter rolls?.

The options are you can do 1/4 rolls in the upline and downline to take in or out. Or do a half roll on the upline to stay were you are.

Expand it a little Mike...

A humpty with options has the following options

#1 on the up line its a 1/4 roll or a 1/2 roll. If you 1/4 roll you much 1/4 roll on the downline. If its a 1/2 roll up then there is now roll segment on the downline..

#2 option the half loop at the top it can be either a push 1/2 outside loop or a pull 1/2 inside loop.

You will notice that most pilots will only use the pull 1/2 inside loop option but it is legal to do it either way.....For example if you 1/4 roll the wrong way to pull to go out...then just push the top 1/2 loop....this is 100% legal and within the rules.

Key points if you 1/4 roll on the way up...you can 1/4 roll any direction you choose. BUT on the downline you must 1/4 roll to make the exit of the maneuver in the proper orientation (upright or inverted)

These are the options on the humpty Bump w/options....int he AMA pattern sequences

In FAI the top skill level of pattern there are sometimes Humpty Bumps with options that don't conform to these rules and have only certain options specified or have a different exit orientation which require a 1/2 roll up and down. These are only at this FAI level and are spelled out what options are available to the pilot...

I suggest you go to the www.modelaircraft.org web site this is the AMA website...and download the rule book. The rules will tell you what the descriptor of every single maneuver in all the schedules...It will tell you is legal and what downgrades get applied for what deviations...This is the best way to start learning maneuvers....a word description and small picture will show a basic idea of what is suppose to happen....The word description always wins out if there is a contradiction in the picture vs the words.
