Hey guys,
I know this would probably be better suited to be asked in the engines forum, but both of the engines I am asking about seem to be pretty popular among the pattern crowd, so here it is.
My Delimma:
I have an AA plane designed by a friend of mine that I bought around December. It presently has an OS .91 FX on it and it does an OK job of pulling it around. He said that the engine was probably not the best match for it, but it was the lightest thing that was around that was going to give him vaguely close to what he wanted. I would like more pull, something around the lines of my Webra in my Hydeout. I was talking to another friend at the field the other day and he was flying it and he thought the same thing as me and the designer. The plane is an Aeroworks Freedom 3D.
I had mentioned a 1.20 for it and my buddy reminded me of the 1.10. This piqued my interest, and I looked online when I got home and found that it is only one ounce heavier than the OS. I figured this would be good since the plane has a short nose moment and is still a little tail-heavy. I'm guessing about how people have been raving over the 1.10 that it has alot of power, how much more than the OS would it have? Doesn't it have a pump so that I could put the tank over the CG?
I was thinking of keeping the OS to put in something along the lines of a Funtana .40, but it seems as that's not too bright an idea, so I think I will sell it and use that money to help me get the YS. The engine has about 40-50 flights on it right now and looks brand new. Does anyone have a clue about how much I should be asking for it?
Thanks alot, and I look foreward to hearing from everybody. [8D]

I replaced an OS91Fx I had in a Swallow with the YS1.10Fz Heaps more power, mainly in torque in the uplines, plane is a delight (sorry, was!. Shot down on the weekend) with this motor. I had a steep learning curve with the 1.10 but when it runs, it is just an awesome motor. Spins a 15x8 at 8600.

I have a Saito 150 on a Aeroworks Freedom 3D and it's not overpowered. The OS 91FX would not be near enough for me. The YS 110 might be a good choice but I would go with a YS 140 if it were be. BTW nice flying plane too bad they dropped it.

We are having a pattern contest at Midland, NC (between Albemarle and Charlotte on NC 24/27) on April 24th and 25th. Map is on district 2 site which can be linked from [link]http://nsrca.org[/link].
Come on down and get your feet wet - or your welcome to spectate to see how a contest is run.

Thanks for the invite Mike.
I am actually planning on coming down and making that my first contest. I think Joey Hayes is coming down too.
PS- How's Dean's Hydeout doing?

YS110 will turn a 15x8 at about 10,400 on Coolpower 30%. Moving up to a 16x8 will turn a more reasonable 9400 RPM. The 110 has about 95% power of the old 120NC which would pull over 9 pounds unlimited. The 110 needs a break-in period. I like to run a gallon on the bench to get it started on its way running a 15x8 at full throttle, set rich to turn in the mid-9000 range for a few tanks and then slowly lean it until running almost max for the last two tanks. Then put on the 16x8 (or 15x10) and go flying. Remember, I am using 30% so if you are using 20% then your RPMs will be lower. On 20%, the 15x8 should be a good ballpark starting place for flying.
110 frustrations seem mostly to come from:
1. No attempt to properly break-in the motor (a gallon starts the process, the motor will be fully run in after about three gallons and will last a LONG LONG time)
2. Poor choice of fuel (YS are not the motors to run low nitro or bargain brand fuels, 30% Heli Coolpower has consistently given the best results for me)
3. Poorly set-up fuel systems
4. Plastic spinners (loose propellors, it may feel tight but is gets quickly loose).
Mark
Additional throughts: If your airplane is OK with the OS91, then the 110 will be a monster. Lots more usable power, yes you can put the tank on the CG (or in the tail, or on the ground, the pressure is very positive in getting fuel to the motor).
