I am getting ready to hinge the control surfaces on a Hydeout. I have used CA type hinges on all of my sport planes for the last couple of years. Is there a good reason I shouldn't use them on a two meter pattern plane?

No , just use good ones. Radio South CA hinges are the best.

Nope, just make sure you have at least 5 on each aileron, 4 on each elevator, and at least 4 on the rudder. Other than that, drive on brotha. I've never had a hinge failure, and I've used radio south pro hinges exclusively. The only hige failure I ever saw on a 2 meter was with pin type hinges, they pulled out toward the bottom of an outside loop from the top. It became a figure 7, sort of. []

Figure 7 ain't to bad, it's those one point landings that'll get ya.

Thanks, I have a bunch of them, I think they are Sig, or GP. I have not had any of them fail either. My last one point landing was pure dumb thumb.

The "toughness" of CA hinges varies. Grasp one with two pair of pliers butted together at the center and try to rip / twist the hinge apart. Some don't do so well! As other have already pointed out - the Radio South Pro Hinges are the best.

The new thin flexible CA is probably the best choice for installation.

I tried something different on my Matrix. I used Pacer hinge glue instead of CA and I am very
happy with the result. It gives you more time to position the hinge and is less likely to make a
mess as it sets in around 30 minutes. Any that gets on the flying surface can just be wiped off
with a paper towel. The moving surface seems to move more freely as the glue doesn't get so
stiff like the CA does. I tried it on some scrap balsa before I used it on my airplane and I wasn't
able to pull the hinge out without shattering the wood. I am going to use it on my new Illusion also
because I think it is better and it sure is easier.
