hi
ive got a os 91 fx engine and i have a b.c.m pitts exhaust
wich i had in a flair giles
im after a patern plane to put this engine into
im thinking of the flair swallow
would this be ok for the os 91?
im not realy into patern sceduals, but i had a dave smith exelsior 150
and quite liked how it flew
im into mild 3d flying at the moment, i like knifedging and flick manuvers e.c.t
would the swallow be a good choise?
thanks for any replys

The Swallow is a good all round plane. There are a few structural issues but as long as you are aware of them they are easily surmountable. Do a search for it in this forum, there is no point repeating it all here...
If it was me with this engine I would mount it at approximately 45degrees and use the standard silencer (ie with the silencer along the centre line of the fuz). This will be a whole lot quieter and won't restrict the engine as much. It also will allow you to easily fit a pipe if you so wish in the future, without the need for expensive swan neck manifolds. Also with the "flat four" style cowling it will be the least obtrusive this way, too.

Kenny,
Do thread search on the Zimpro Viper 91.. great hand crafted wood and foam plane and was designed with the OS 91 fx in mind....also if you want more info do a web search on zimpro viper and you should get to Dennis Hunts page.. The plane is 7.5-7.75 lbs and works great swinging a 15x9 prop and not using any pump and tank is on the CG..

move onto a kyosho GTRICK 90 , if u can get ur hands on one. That too, since its a step above pattern, alot more towards 3-D.
OR another choice could be the WM Tai-Ji 90. I've seen it fly n its a good pattern performer.

Oxai's Austar-Z 110 is a really nice airplane. You can probably get it from Oxai-Europe. I don't think it shows on their web site but ask them. Other guys have gotten Oxai airplanes that don't show on the site.

I hear that there is a 2nd version of the 3D Quest in production. It would be ideal but you would have to wait for it. I don't know who will be selling it because Creek Hobbies appears to be no more.
Does any one know who will be stocking it in the US?

If you're starting in pattern by all means go for the Swallow... I did and don't regret it they're only US$210 and i am seriously thinking of buying another one to recover and full feature.
mine has a .72 Irvine on a pipe by just engines and flies VERY GOOD!!
if you go for it let me know and will tell you where to beef it up.
I am running a pull ppul rudder and CF pushrod for the elevators, all around hitec servos
