Default Pattern bipe- Goldburg ultimate streatched?

I am a 402 pilot (Been out of it for a few years, ) I was practicing with my Excelsior and had a battery extension die on me and I piled it in and totaled it. I don't have the free cash this month to buy a new kit/arf/arc but I have a Goldburg Ultimate that I am building.
Now I know it isn't great for it but I recall a conversation with Dean Pappas at the 97 or 98 Glenn NY meet about stretching either an ultimate or a Sukoi. I was thinking of building the fuse with an extra 6 inches in it for better tracking and muddling along with this for the summer.
(better than nothing) till I can build a new 2 meter plane this fall/winter.

I will reuse my ST2300 in it, (with the carb mods and muffler pressure it runs great) so power will not be an issue.

Do you think 6inches will be enough or too much?

Again no funds for a new plane this month and I need to get back flying and the Ultimate is all paid for.

Thanks

Well, you can try it. For intermediate, it might be ok for a while. It's gonna be a handful in the wind, and it's going to couple like the devil.

But look at it like this: if you can fly it and make it smooth, you'll be WAY ahead of the game when you get a "real" pattern plane

Ya know, wierd situations call for wierd solutions. If that's all ya got, then that's all ya got. It might be just fine without stretching it. Stretching it will definitely change the way it flies....maybe better, maybe worse. Either way you just have to decide if it's worth the risk and then make a decision. I'd do it, but I'll try anything just about. It may be awesome, who knows. If you were attempting masters of even advanced I'd say no, but for intermediate, sure why not?

I'd be interested to see how it flies myself.

Thanks for the reply,
I know the downsides. and with the wind in Dist 1 this year it will be fun! I know it's not going to be compitive,
but they are a good flying plane and Since I piled in my "real Pattern " plane sunday I am stuck for awhile.
(You know the deal. want to at least get some practice in.)
I have had a multi year layoff and my flying was nice and smooth except when I had someone call the pattern.
This plane will be to help me learn the darn thing if nothing else. (and buy me time to get a nice Aries maybe! )
I figure I will stretch it out and see what happens. worse I will have to do it take a saw to the fuse.

Glenn

In years past we have made a 15 mods to the Ultimate bipe. If you aare going to build the stock wing. make the tail 3.5 inchs longer and the nose 1.5 inchs longer. drop the top wing 1 inch. and set up the wings and stab at zero zero.

Good luck the plane will teach you to pull up straight .

Have fun Mark

I was hoping someone would reply with specifics before I start kit bashing tonight!
Stock wings are done, I remembered Dean saying somthing about dropping the wing down but couldn't remember how much. I will learn from your Experiments and
streach from both ends. (it will be much easier that way too!)

Thanks again !
