Default firewall for widebody 40 and the covering

Hi everybody !! I am new to the RC universe !

I have two quick questions regarding widebody 40 kit. ( I guess many people already built one like this)

1) Is the supplied firewall (soft ply~3 mm) strong enough? (with OS 46 FX)
I am thinking of attaching a thin plywood ~ 3 mm to it.

2) What will be the weight difference between using monokote and spray paint(glass or silk)?
or it is not a good idea to paint it because it has many weight saving cutout.

thanks very much

Hello there!

I used a Saito72 on my Widebody40 and I glued a 3mm ply for reinforcement. For the 46Fx i think you can get away with the supplied firewall.

I wouldn't glass and paint the plane, it is very light with monokote!

I also glued a 3mm ply reinforcement. Mine is being finished in tissue and dope.

Thanks Guys !!

I attached a 3mm ply for reinforcement already, and I probably will cover it with monokote once it is done.

You guys have any pictures of your widebody 40?

I'll ask my questions about the Widebody 40 here as I'm considering buying it......

The instruction manual takes forever to download, so I gave that up. Wrote to CA Models and never got a reply.

The manual seemed to not show anything regarding servo installation, hinges, etc. Does it give any info for this? Also, it seemed to very very vague about cutting the elevators and ailerons. I'm not an expert builder, but I can build kits. How is the manual for an intermediate builder?

Thanks for letting me jump in on the firewall thread. I guess I'll reinforce the firewall anyway if I buy the kit, and use nylon bolts for the main gear.
