Default RE: Suggestion on Engine for MK Skystar 90

Dear Jon,
After going through your post posted two years back, I have so many questions to ask you. A few of them are as under:

1. What is the elevator mechanism you used in your airplane?
2. Can I go for two servo configuration on the tail?
3. Are the control horns MK?
4. Does this plane holds on to good knife edges?
5. What are bad habits of this airplane?
6. What would you like to suggest me as a tip as you have build and flown this airplanes yourself?

I am getting late for a meeting now otherwise there is a long list of questions lying for you.

Thanks anyway

Hi, I'm glad you ask :-)

1. I used the MK dual elevator coupler and a pushrod inside the fuse, servo mounted in the front of the fuse.
2. You can probably fit two servos in the rear fuselage. It is pretty narrow but it could work.
3. Yes but no horns are included, you have to buy separately.
4. It flies knife-edge with virtually no rudder. It pulls a little to the belly with rudder (if you want to fly a knife-edge loop)
5. No bad habits. All mistakes it does in the air is the fault of the pilot, not the plane.
6. Check the wood and maybe replace some soft wood with a little harder balsa. Some wood is very light and although the plane is strong enough it is very easy to make dents in the plane during transport. The stabilizer had very soft wood and the elevators and ailerons are extremely light and easy to damage. But if you glass the fuse and stabilizer it's not really a problem.

Dear Jon,
Thanks once again for such a detailed reply. Actually didn't noted at all that the fuse is to narrow at the end , I will check if I can at all fix the servo which i doubt . Now can you give me part nos. for MK dual elevator coupler and a push rod, also the control horns that you have used on your own plane. I have the pull pull cable system though.

I am really getting pretty excited about this plane as the description you have given me. Frankly speaking this is my first pattern ship.
The idea to go on pattern ship is to have much more better and precise flying and ability to do awesome maneuvers.

I didn't keep the part numbers for all the MK bits I used but I remember the fixed landing gear was "mighty gear LL". The tank I used is MK 450cc square. the kit is meant for 400cc and 450cc square tanks from MK but any other square tank will do. Do not order MK360cc tank as it is oval and difficult to fit.
Elevator and aileron: MK0804 Aluminum horn medium. You need 4 pcs.
Rudder horns are MK0815 medium special horn. It was only just big enough for the very wide hingeline so consider using 0816 big special horn instead. 2 pcs. required.
Wheels are MK 55 mm MK0505
Tail gear set MK0581, 1 pcs required

You do not need the MK parts, but they are nice and fit well. If I could only have one original MK part for the SkyStar it would be the Tail gear set: It's perfect for the kit and fits like a glove with no adjustment.

Good, then you should have what you need apart from the engine mount. It's designed for an MK mount so you should find one that suits the engine you choose.
there's not really many places to go wrong if you can build kits from plans you should have no problems.

You can see construction pictures in this thread here:
