Kris,
If my memory is still OK, CML Distribution who distribute "TOP GUN" products is the distributor for X-TREME Composite products.

HI,

I just collected my Otop for flying display this season. It's in the wild 'torn' colourscheme.

CML are indeed the distributors and will answer any and all questions regarding availability.

I am intrigued by the problems with the tail, and will check mine thoroughly...

What is the general consensus on motors. YS 140 or something less ostentatious. I want serious grunt!!!

Also, what is the difference between the two sets of wings/tails?

kind regards

Julian

Julian,
I'm running a 160 DZ and it's a good combination. Thought it might be too much but it isn't. The other set is for 3D flying.

So, do you think the YS 140 enough?

I've been offered a recently serviced second-hand example for £240.00

What's a good pipe to match with it?

I think you'll be fine with the 140. I'm using an ES pipe.

I've been quite lucky - the motor is from a UK F3A competitor and UK team guy. His advice has been magic!

Has anyone got some installation pictures they could share with me?

my email address is:- [email protected]

regards

Julian

Has anyone thought about an electric conversion for this plane?
Ive been toying with the idea. I just got into electrics and so far I am very happy. What do you guys think?

You bet. I am. The weight of the OTOP on the web site is 4.7 kg, or 10.4 pounds. There are lots of folks, including me, flying ~11 pounds models with Hacker C50's, with more than enough power. So if the published weight is in the right ballpark, this plane is a great conversion candate. Operative word there being "conversion", which means it's designed for a wet powerplant, and it could be tricky mounting the motor and batteries. I've looked at pics of the OTOP, but I haven't seen enough pics of the thing to see how difficult it would be to convert. I converted the Planes PLus Dream 110 to electric, and I was able to use the stock motor mount, with a custom home made plate in the front for the motor to bolt to. Batteries went in the belly pan.

Yes I am also the one to consider electric conversion of OTOP.
What about AXI motor 5330 series. Any comments?

The Axi 5330 takes much more current to generate about the same power as a geared inrunner like a Hacker C50.

So what battery you use for Hacker C50. How many volt. and mah.? How much about the max. current?

IM new to pattern just finished a Dream 110 for my first pattern airplane and now have an OTOP on the way. I was thinking of going with an electric conversion and then saw the price of batteries and forget that. What do you think would be the best engine and pipe combo for this airplane. Like I said Im new to pattern so all suggestions and help would be appreciated. Also does anybody feel that at this point I should install wing adjustes while Im putting it together? Thanks for the help!!

James: I would use a 10s lipoly battery capable of at least 70 amps continous. 6000 mah Thunder Power Pro Lites would be my choice.

KatManDEW : Nice to meet you. Your electric set up close to my plan, but I like to use AXI motor.
Any comments about Kokam battery?
How much about Battery C Rating of your 6000 mah Thunder Power? 15C or 20C?

thanks Vortec!

another question...Ive been looking at engines and see the O.S. 140 RX Pumped engine and then I see the same engine fuel injected. Is it me but the thrust output of the engine looks to be equal for both engines, but the Injected engine is 500 dollars more. I know the reason why but in everyones opinion is it worth the extra money? I am considering the straight 1.40 RX pumped motor unless someone advises me otherwise, but which pipes have been known to run well on this engine. As I said earlier Im really new to this stuff. Ive been messing with giant scale IMAC stuff for the last seven years. Any help is appreciated. The 1.40 I hope will pull the OTOP around with authority.

Thanks Guys,

Pete

James: The Thunder Power's are rated at 12C continous and 18C burst, which is good enough for the Hacker setup. But with the hottest Axi 5330 setup you will pull over 90 amps, so you would need 10s2p of the 20C Kokam 3200's, which will weigh 70 ounces, versus 44 ounces for 10s3p Thunder Power 6000's. Since you need extra ampacity for the Axi setup, you could run 10s4p Thunder Power 8000's, and have the ampacity that you need, and still weigh much less than the Kokam pack(s), and have 8000mah instead of 6400mah, which is a win-win scenario.

There has been discussion, which I agree with, that the 20C cells are so much heavier than the lower C cells, that it's better to parallel up smaller C cells, and have the same current loading capacity, with the same (or less) weight, and more mah as a bonus.

If you determined to use a outrunner motor, there are some outrunners that are supposedly more efficient than the Axi's, and thus wouldn't have the high current demands that the Axi's have.

I was able to find an otop at a local hobby store. How/where did you place a battery tray?
