Default Zen 30 with an os 46 fx?

My wife bought me a zen 30 to replace a fun-fly plane that met it's experation. Iwould like the plane to go very fast, but I would also like it to fly well, and be able to land without doing 100 MPH.

Is the OS. 46 fx too large/powerfull?

Thanks!

Makes me feel better! Anyone else have an idea if it is too much or not?

In my experience, the Zen 30 is overpowered with a 46FX if you've tuned and propped it appropriately to develop anything resembling the power cabability of this engine. If you want a psuedo sports pylon dart, then it's an ersatz combo - if arguably a waste. Neither the excess power, speed nor the higher wing loading is desireable or necessary for pattern or for the Zen 30 to accomplish the sports aerobatic manoeuvres.

I'd buy a Modeltech Sonic 500 for that 46FX instead for what you want to do. Tower's Great Planes Viper is similar. Either will do what you want to do better than the Zen 30, and for a lot less. Save that Zen for another engine and put it to more suitable use.

Well, I was crazy enough to try it. The plane flew fine. Since it was the maiden, and I was very nervous...I am not really sure how well it flies. the plane was much more nimble than I had anticipated. For sure I will need to adjust the control throws.

My next flight will tell me if this plane can handle the engine I have on it. I flew it with a 10X6 prop. I believe I will try an 11X7. Anyone have thoughts on that?

the best pattern prop for the os46fx is a 11.5x5....... dun worry abt the plane being over powered because i have friends using rossi 46-53

Agree with team_singapore that an 11.5x5, though often overlooked can be a good choice for aerobatics with a 46FX, providing crisp acceleration, sustained vertical, excellent braking and balanced speed (airframe).

Sounds good. I will get myself an 11X5.5 this afternoon. Can't wait to fly again. Got to see what sort of tricks this plane can do :-)
