Default Rookie Pattern Wannabe

Guys I've been flying for quite a while and have never considered pattern flying until now. I don't have any explaination why the pattern bug has bit me. Here's my question. I willling to spend around 400.00 on the plane alone but i have no idea what the best pattern plane in this range would be. I have been looking at the following pattern planes ZEN. Excelloron, Majestic 1400. I wpould like at least a 90 size and it must be an ARF as I have no time to built. It doesn't nesessary have to be a 90 size.

Thanks
Bobby Richardson

i reccomend the Arresti III..... i have 1 myself and i am building it........pretty easy to build if u use a 2strke setup but i am using a 4strke setup...... if u are on a budget, i reccomend that u use this combination:OS160fx+standardservos+arresti III use smaller servos for the elevator or u mite have trouble fitting them...... check Mr Bob's stuff @ www.rcaerobats.com ,great deal of info ......good luck on choosing a good plane

The Aresti III is an ARF.

Of the ones you named I'd choose the Excelleron.

If you want a less expensive choice look at the GSP Swallow. 90 sized & only slightly smaller & heavier than the Excelleron.

IMHO the Zen and G-trick are too expensive.

The brand new Fliton Infinity90 is beautiful and supposed to be available around 12-04 but I read it'll be around $400.00 - and they fussed the Excelleron is too high at $199.-$279. :-))

The Quest is good flying .90 sized ARF. A YS 1.10 is a good match for it.

But, if you can afford it, you should get a two meter ARF.

I'll mention the Arresti III again, Im also putting one together. Its an ARF and for the money its very well built. Have good look at www.rcaerobats.net to see how Bob put his together. All the info you need is there.
Im opting for a cheaper airframe for my first two meter but going for the better running gear, all digital JR servo's, OS140RX and a hyde mount as these items can and will be moved in to better (read "more expensive") airframes in the future.

I just went to the Kondor Models web site and looked at the plane, and it looks great. Have you flown yours yet?

Bobby

BoB Pastorelli won 3 contests Texas/Oklahoma flying Masters Class with the Aresti III this year.
Check out his site provided to you earlier. everything you could possibly want to know about the sub $400 Full size 2-meter ARF.

I was thinking you might try a 1/5th Scale Spifire... LOL

1. Long tail moment...

2. Get the nose heavy enough she'll be as smooth as a babies butt....

3. You need a warbird!

Just kidding guys... Bobby is a flying buddy of mine and have to give him a hard time. All I can say is you guys better watch out in the future, he's a GREAT flier with LOTS of determination!

Hey mike and bobby where do you guys fly?

I recently joined the morris field club. I have been out of flying for a while. I love pattern. I am about to finish restoring my dads old MK Arrow pattern plane. of course it won't compete with the new 2m planes but it should get me back into some of the manuevers. I will get a bigger plane later.

Mike as you well know my flying skills need a lot of honing, so maybe I should start out with one of them mustangs so I could learn the 180 degree turn and also the 270 degree turn. One last thing you would have come to practice to land it for me

I fly at the Bama Flyer field in Moody www.bamaflyers.org. Mr Chilson is a dignitary in the RC arena and usually visits all the surounding clubs in the area. You may even see him on television from time to time. He a legend in his own right, I hope you get to meet him

Bobby, I know some fellows have suggested the ARESTI as a good ARF in your price range, and Bob P sez it does adequately well. However it finishes out a bit heavy at well over 11 pounds.

The ICEPOINT is priced similarly, looks quite a bit better in the weight department, and flies at least as well as the ARESTI. It also is a 140 sized model. Visit their website and view their flight routine. RCU has several ads on the ICEPOINT. Click on one of them.

Bobby,
I saw an Excelleron 90 at a hobby store in Fl. yesterday, it looks very nice. From what I can tell by reading some of the posts on this model it flies great.
I am thinking of getting one myself,at $280 I think it is a good deal. There is a good thread of it in the pattern forum.

War Eagle guys from down here in Auburn,

I suggest that you give the CA Models website a look. They have ARCs that appear to be well made if you don't want to build the kits. I have a Widebody 40 kit and there is a Widebody 60 at the field. They are incredible planes with the right price ranges. Pattern Proz seems to be the best place pricewise from what I've found for these kits and ARCs. The website is camodels. com.ar.

Glad to hear about the field up there. Ours is a small club with about 20 members, and we have a good site with a grass runway. The SPA Masters will be at our field this year, so maybe y'all will come down for that....or to just fly around with us some time. We have about 5 pattern guys, and one won Nats about 13 years ago, and the friend with the Widebody 60 won Jr. Nats eons ago.
