Pattern and speed?
Hi all,
I have just recently gotten back into the hobby after 7 or 8 years.
Things have changed a lot! More ARF's then kits, all the 3d stuff etc.
When I got out of the hobby I had progressed to the point of taking
the next step up in planes. I had been flying a AeroSport 40, built
with a straight symmetrical wing, similar to the stick planes. I had
a YS45 with a tuned pipe running a 10x10 or 11x6 size props. The
plane was pretty quick.
It has been a few months since I returned to flying and have regained
all my previous flying ability. I feel 100% comfortable flying the AreoSport
with the YS and want to move to the next plane. At this time I am able to
fly inverted comfortably, a little knife edge, loops, inverted loops, most of
the other things that the plane is capable of.
For the short term I have ordered a Sig Somthin Extra and plan on installing
the YS 45 in it. I hope this will be a good plane to learn on (low/mid wing tail
dragger)!
I guess my question is what plane/engine (kit or arc) (.60, maybe .90 size if I
can afford it) combo would you recommend that is both capable of good aerobatics
with a little 3d, and a lot of speed?
I would like something that would slow down to a reasonable speed for landing,
however my AeroSport has a wing loading of around 28 oz so I don't need a
floater!
The WideBody 60 looks great, as well the Epsilon.

The Widebody or Epsilon would be a good choice. I too am just getting back into pattern after a 12 yr lay off. I'm flying an Epsilon to get my touch back. The Epsilon is capable of 3D but I have mine set up a little more dormant for a pattern trainer and sport plane. It slows down well and is capable of more than I can do with it. There are some new designs in the 90-110 range that are probably as good or better but you can't go wrong with any of the CA designs.
