Default Mintor 1.70 Fuel Consumption

Please post your set-up for Mintor 1.70 with prop size, fuel % nitro, and airframe. Then what size tank do you use and how long do you fly.

Thanks, Lem

Hello Lem

Well I am flying a CA Models Eclipse with a 3M 170 and apc 17x13 prop, stock pipe.
Using a tetra 20 oz tank and 15% coolpower fuel, I can fly about 2 full sequence PO5 pattern.
Still having problem with setting up the engine ( overheats a lot and glow plugs keep coming loose )
Right now I switch over to a Ys 140Dz to compare the 2 engine in terms of power and fuel consumption.

Aruba_Maverick,

You say you are running 15% Cool Power. I have been informed that the Cool Power 15/17 is not lubricating this engine very well. I had numerous problems with mine and had to have the rod and wrist pin replaced due to what looked like a lack of lubrication. I think this engine may need more oil or a different blend or needs to run very rich. The guys here running them with any success are using Magnum 10 and 15%. I dont understand why your plugs are coming loose... never had that problem.
I was thinking maybe 20/20 Cool Power may be the way to go. Yes they can be very tempermental if they get hot. They came out with a bolt on header now that is a plus over the O-ringed header that bolts right on with no mods. Other improvements include more clearance in the rod wrist pin bearing, heat shielded pump, beveled edges on the inside of the carb where the o-rings slide in to reduce the possibility of cutting the o-rings.

As far as milage. It used about 18oz in 15minutes of throttle managed pattern flying. I could fly the advanced pattern twice with a few extra manuvers and have a little over an ounce left on a 20 oz tank. 11+lb airframe(Aries) 17x12 and 17x13 APC.

HI Friends,
I'm Flying Sebart's Funtana 140 with Mintor 170 and APC 18/8W, alluminium mintor Pipe, I'm USing Coolpower 15 Hely. I have consumed 5 gallons with no one problem carburation, and no one problem of lubrication, ball bearings seems new, for me coolpower 15 is perfect mix for Mintor 170, Coolpower 20 contains too much nitro and the carburation would not be perfect. In Fact Mintor advises one mixture with 10/15 nitro and 15/16 good synthetic oil. Ciao Alfo

I realize that is what Mintor recommends. But my friends at AeroSlave insist that the only problems they have seen in this engine are the ones being run on 15/17 Cool Power. Now this may be a problem only seen on the initial production run of engines so time will tell. FWIW... the guys at Cool POwer told me that the heli 15% is the same as regular 15% Cool Power(the green stuff). Seems it was a change later on and that it just ended up being a marketing thing for the heli users.

I would think that with 20/20 more Nitro means a more open needle setting thus more fuel flow equals more oil in the engine plus its already a higher volume of oil. An addition of an extra head shim would compensate for any compression issues.

For fun you should try a 18x8 0r 20x8 I am sure that engine will pull either one.

I know guys running 18x10 no problems

Hi Friends,
I talk with Claudio, big boss of Mintor [email protected] , he said me that 15/16 good synthetic oil is perfect for 170 , after 250 flights ball bearing are like new, Mintor use Motul Synthetic oil, and with 15 nitro the power is awesome, if you have problems or demands send mail a Claudio, he is a very kind person and he will answer to you sure! ciao Alfo.
my set up:
Mintor 170 2004 Version
2 OS F Glow Plug
Alluminium Mintor's Pipe (95 gramms!!)
Coolpower 15 hely
APC 18/8W
