Dang it Bob,

Why did you have to send me this link? Man, that's a purty plane, I think it would be a good home for a new ST2300, or would that be too heavy? I'll have to call my LHS to see about them gettin' me one of these baby's.

The nose area is wider, deeper, and longer than the Excelleron. The belly pan is quite a big bigger at the nose, so the ST should fit with no problems. Weight wise, just have to put the rudder servo in back like I did. The Magnum 1.20 is 31.2 oz including muffler. It balanced fine with this setup. Battery is on CG or maybe a little aft. Tank in the nose, right behind firewall.

Here's those ball-bearing control horns/clevises, and a fuse interior view.

Project is complete. Detailed "how to" instructions are here http://www.rcaerobats.net/Dream110/DreamCoverPage.htm

Haven't test flown yet, but will soon. Seems to be a real nice package.

Did you get an AUW yet?

I'm really looking at this one now.

Yep. It's exactly 8 lbs, with the stock "everything" stuff, and the Magnum 1.20 four-stroke. Will fly it someday....

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!! Four flights on the beauty. First, and most importantly - the plane has NO bad habits. Does it fly like a 2M ? H-#@ YES!!! And probably better than some, no doubt. The fuse area is well distributed around the CL of the fuse, as it was VERY nearly self-correcting in yaw, and we had 90 degree, 10mph crosswinds today. Requires almost NO rudder for crosswind corrections, and has no belly pitch. Knife edge from here to there and only a very slight adverse roll (like maybe 5 degrees after the length of the box). Thrust lines and CG is right on, although it needed about 8% more Down elevator to have the same 'feel' as upright. All that inverted stuff in Masters is a no-sweat deal with this bird. It is a KEEPER, and looks just beautiful in the air! Presentation is just outstanding.

A word about the Magnum 1.20. Sweet. On 15%, with a 15 x 10, I had all the up I needed for a good Masters' sequence, although it would slow at the tops if I tried to make stuff box-filling. It NEVER skipped a bit, or coughed, and ran like a sewing machine. No pump, just stock tank behind firewall deal. VERY nice combo.

If you are thinking about a 90 size that acts, and feels, like a 2M, I have to tell you this is a quantum leap above the Excelleron. And I thought the Excelleron was pretty good in it's own right. Ya gets what ya pays for..... the Dream is worth every penny of the price difference!

Great to hear Bob!

Will start on mine once the other two models on the bench are complete(soon). As soon as I saw one at the WRAMS show I knew it just looked "right" - glad to hear the flight tests back up those impressions.

Bob,
Did you give up on the Icepoint with ST2300? Still waiting on flight report for that one! Glad the Dream worked out well for you.

Hi, Steve! No - the ST2300 is on the Excelleron. Icepoint has OS 1.60, and is yet unflown (had to do this Dream first). Next comes test flights of Icepoint, then NEXT project... but this has been a great experience so far!

Oops! I forgot which engine went where! I'll look forward to hearing. Glad your weather finally is decent. We have had a wet and windy spring here. I wonder what your next project will be.

Bob,
Now I'm in a predicament, I finished my Matrix and am about to start my Excelleron. My problem is now I want the Dream!!!!!
My wife say's that "I'm old enough not to let my wants bother me". I think she's full of it, trust me, my wants bother me.
What to do, what to do...
I think you're a great guy Bob, but you're killing me here!

See ya',

Well, there's a good reason to have BOTH. Setup the Excelleron with the wild and crazy throws and have a ball. Then get to the really precision work and use the Dream OR the Excelleron for that. The Dream was able to hover, tumble (sort of), but just isn't setup for the really violent stuff. The Excelleron comes with all the control surfaces already beveled to let you get crazy with it....so why not?

I'll keep both....

Well Bob,

I'm just going to have to see if my LHS can order me one. It's safer that way than to have my wife come home and find a big box on the back porch.

I have an OS 120 w/pump that I could pull out of my Quest for this one. Or maybe another ST-2300, which weighs a few ounces more.

It seems from your report that you had no shortage of power with your Magnum, is that correct?

Gotta' make a call tomorrow!

The Magnum was "good", meaning about 4 or 5 consecutive vertical rolls before it started yawing off from loss of energy. If concerned about that, I'd use a lighter weight motor, as the airplane is built so lightly, it would be a shame to hang a bunch more ounces on it.

I'm thinking of retrofitting to a GMS 1.20 two-stroke/muffler. Weighs same as the Magnum setup, and will have probably "great" vertical, although not "ridiculous" vertical like the ST2300 would give.

You're probably right, the OS and the ST are too heavy for this one. The ST would be great for power but the 1/2 pound would hurt the precision characteristics. I'll have to do some investigating. The YS 110 would probably be sweet in this one, but I can't find one.

Yep - the YS marketing strategy - HUGELY successful.... limit product availability, while making product desirability high, thus increasing average retail price tolerated by buyers! (Sucks, but it sure works for them - that's ONE of the reasons why I refuse to run one.)

If you COULD get a 110, it would be absolutely the PERFECT match for this airframe, no doubt about it.

I neglected to say, for the price of the 110, I could buy any other engine I wanted. Your reasons that you stated are part of the reason I've never owned a YS. The rest of the reason is the pressure pump and the finicky settings that I've heard so much about.
I'm a "play with the HS needle a little, due to weather change, and fly it" kind of guy.

I'm in this hobby to fly not to mess with my engine.

I'll have to quote what Bob said about his airplane when we're talking about YS 1.10
engines , "You get what you pay for". I've only touched my engine settings twice
since I started flying it last September, once when I changed from Powermaster 20/20
to Powermaster 30% heli fuel and again when I changed to Magnum Cool Power 30% heli.
I liked the Powermaster just fine but it is getting hard to find around here.

Bob,
Your best bet would probably be Russ Honea at Pattern Proz in Oklahoma. I just got
a new YS 1.40 from him last week. I understand a new shipment of YS engines is due
in just about any day now. Central Hobbies seems to always be out of them. I got my
two YS 1.10s from Tony Stillman at Radio South who is also expecting a new shipment
any day. I called Radio South when I needed one for my Excelleron and they reserved
one for me from their expected shipment , took about two weeks.
Hey, I'm not saying you have to have a YS engine to be successful, there are lots of engines
usable in pattern ships but in my opinion YS make the most powerful 4-strokes going and
MVVS makes the most powerful 2-strokes , both have there little quirks but pound for pound,
dollar for dollar these are the ones I prefer not just for pure power but power that is available
at the right RPM we need it for pattern use. The only thing I've been more impressed with
is electrics and I'm a long way from making that commitment.

Dunno, Ken. Here's a link to my webpage (finally), and I've posted a weights table there.

Well it looks like I would be about 1/2 lb. heavier with my motor, ESC and battery packs. The plane looks like it could handle the extra weight, I'll have to think about this a little bit.
