Default Best pattern plane for OS 61

Hi All,
I have an OS 61 that needs a plane and was wondering what the best pattern plane would be.

TIA,
Chris

In order to help you out. We need more info. from you. Are you looking for a ARF or a kit? How much are you looking to spend? Is your 61 a side exhaust or a rear exhaust? Etc...

I have a OS .61 fsr in my Excelleron 50. Haven't flown it yet (MN Weather) but it sure fit's well and should have good power for the uplines. I've also heard of people using .61's on the Venus.

Scott.

Sorry for the lack of info. I'm looking for either kit or ARF around the $150 range. The OS 61 is a side exhaust(didn't know they had different exhaust ports). I'm in Denver, CO so I have altitude issues to consider as well. I have looked at the Widebody 40(online) and am considering it but am still open to suggestions. As luck would have it Areo-works here in town carries it.

Thanks,
Chris

Not having seen the widebody in the flesh I can't comment, but if you're chasing a nice ARF, in my opinion, you can't go past the GP Venus 40.

A very nice flying aircraft an capable of some very insane maneuvres, as well as flying clean, crisp pattern when trimmed well.

Black Horse Models Bravo 303. Nobody pays any attention to this, but I have one and like it. I use a ST 90 in mine, but the OS 60 would do well. You can search here for a thread on this. Here is the web site. Mine was $175.

Not to put a dampener on your spirits there Xrod, but I found the bravo to be just a little but bendy for my liking.

And a touch too heavy, hence the st90 to get it to go good

My vote would be for the WB40 or a boxer 60.

I would half to agree with these two choices. The only thing though is I think the Boxer 60 is designed around a rear exhaust engine. Not a 100% sure on that but..... bang for the buck, you can not go wrong with either one.

Thanks for all of the repsonses. Now to deviate a touch from my original post. I have heard about some mods to the WB 60, do they apply to the WB 40 and what are they?

Thanks,
Chris

Hello Chris ,

I'm thinking this is a OS 61 FX and not a fsr??

The widebody 60 would be good choice with a 90 fx from what Shaun told me ( areoworks )
Could also be used for IMAC with that power choice.

Ive seen the GP Venus fly with a OS 65 la but add alot of lead in the tail.
Also with that engine you need a bigger fuel tank.
Stock tank is too small.
Hope this helps you,
Frank

Mine balanced fine with an OS 61 sf.

But expect to do some work to shift the weight aft, i.e. move your battery pack into some funky spaces.

And the stock tank is too small for what?

For the Venus this pilot did not put the battery in a strange place !
But took easy route, behind servo tray and #3 bulkhead , under the contol rods.
He then add 4 oz of lead under the tail stab too balance out that 65 la .
With stock fuel tank he was landing in less than 10 minutes of flight time.
Of course flying WIDE OPEN THROTTLE.
Light plane alot of speed.

Ahh see, that's the thing, judicious use of throttle is always a benefit and if you're flying pattern it's another PRIMARY flight control which you must learn to use.

I can get through two sequences per flight, which is enough for me as a pratice pattern ship.

I should also point out that my battery pack is a 600mah NIMH so has even less wieght than a standard NiCd pack. even so she still came out pretty close.

I like the look XROD. Looks like a Dirty Birdy wing and Cap-ish fuse.

Not sure what you mean by "bendy" Renegade. Do you mean flimsy? Anyway, the original post asked for something in the $150 range and the Bravo fits the bill nicely. I did have to straighten a warp in one of the elevators with heat and it has since stayed put. It has plug in wings and has way more vertical than I really need with the .90. I do feel that a good .60 with the right prop would do well. It took me to a new level with my flying and I think while not perfect, represents an outstanding value for an enty level pattern plane.

When I say bendy, I mean bendy. Having said that these are the experiences I've had with the older version Bravo. I found it hard to keep it's shape. Wings would warp and ailerons were never straight. I could never get it trimmed from one weekend to the next.

Having said that I do live in australia where the temps on the tarmac in summer are around 40ËšC or over 100 in humerikun speak.
