Hello, anyone can tell me if a YS 91 4 stroke will be too heavy for this airplane?

Probably too heavy, I had to add 1 oz. to the tail on mine with a saito 82.

Is the saito 82 heavier than the YS 63? Do you use any kind of pump for the saito?

Close to the same weight and no I dont have a pump. I could probably use one and lose the lead on the tail, I like it the way it is. Just gonna keep it simple. Also with the 91 you would probably have to get new gear and/or go 3 blade for clearance. I think its too much.
The 82 works well and is similar in power to the YS 63. Seems most of the 3D guys like the saito a little more; user friendly and will swing a 15X4W.

The YS 63 is the perfect engine for this plane

Hi. Could anybody give info on where to buy replacement U/C for this plane. I switch between tarmac and grass and it is a pain to remove the spats when flying on grass. Easier just to bolt on the suitable U/C before setting out. Thanks. Paul.

lighter for electric, but I am guessing perfect for nitro as well.

Roo I bought Standard F3A gear from bolly, Had to cut it in 1/2 but it works better than the factory, and adds a little ground clearance.

I'm contemplating buying another one just to put a YS 63 on for comparison.

Maiden flight on my Oxalys was great. Had the c/g at the forward limit and plan to move more aft but the three flights were most enjoyable. Mine has a Saito 72 for power and JR DS821 servos. Only concern was the weight needed in tail to balance, almost 2 ounces.

The arf is a nice job of covering and the quality is very good.

Mine finally flew three days ago. all up weight was 5 lb 8oz. It's kinda too fast with above half throttle.
I used following.
Kevlar pull-pull with IM Pull-Pull rudder horn driven by JR 8411SA.
Y-pushrod with MK bearing clevis with IM horn (similar to MK) on elevator driven by Airtronics 94758 servo.
MK small control horns with MK bearing clevis on ailerons driven by Futaba 9650 servos.
HS-56HB on throttle. Bolly F3A standard gear with NMP axles stock wheels and pants. JR 720 ScanSelect FM receiver.
old YS 63FZ with APC 13x6, Hyde Type A mount, Truturn adapter and 2-1/4" 120 cut Blue Ultimate spinner. MK remote glow adapter.
Hatori rigid header and short muffler.

I still have to trim the plane more. With 1/2 oz on tail, 1100 6.0v NiCD with Jaccio 6.0V regulator on the bottom of the fuse aft of the wing. It has couple clicks of up elevator. All controls are still too sensitive even with more than 45% expo. The airtronics servo is probably the fastest servo available. Vertical is very good, but didn't try to find out how far it goes up. Hopefully, I can have a few more flights.

I may replace the Y-pushrod with MK bellcrank later. It need up elevator mixing with rudder.

Super D,

How is the second one going?

jfassino, just build you a hatch in the bottom of the fuse for the battery. Thats what I did and ended up just adding 1/2 oz to the tail.

Ihncheol, I've had no extra time. I'm trying to get Chuck's Sword flying before Lubbock.

Super D

my next is the Sword with YS 140L. What are you powering it with?
I've never built more than two planes a year especially just for Pattern, but it looks like there will be at least 4 within this year.
3 of 2m (Sword, Brio, Unknown name design), 1 x Excelleron 90, Oxalys 50 GP, a new wing and modifications for my Beat On 90, and possibly an Oxalys EP.
It took me 2 months for the Oxalys 50, but the Sword will take less than 3 weeks since I don't really care much of it as it was the cheapest 2m

You better hurry since the Lubbock is only 13 days away.

I have a mintor 170 on an aeroslave CF pipe.

WOW 13 days.... Not sure I needed that reminder.
I got it from Chuck mostly RTF, I just need to put a battery and pipe on it.
If it will ever rain again in east TX, I might get time to do the Oxalys.

Super D,

Any chance of you coming up to KS for contest? My 3M 140 still has tuning problem which is the reason that I am going with YS.
It only rains here during the night, so not very good.
Let me know how you like the Sword.

By the way, Kyosho now has the small covering set for repairing the Oxalys 50.
I will put a Canalizer on mine next month to see what differences it make.

Hi guys, I just finished mine this morning and took her out for a quick shake down flight, and I must say that I had a bit of trouble. With the YS 63S the power is excellent, but the controlls all feel a bit mushy for my taste. And I couldn't get the ailerons to trim properly. One click it would roll left, one click the other way it would roll right. It just wouldn't stay centered. And it wasn't just slowly wandering left or right it was really rolling either way. Any ideas where I went wrong? Is it possible that this model is so sensitive that I need to set my trim rate to the finest step possible? Maybe there is something else wrong.

It took only 2 clicks of down ele. trim to get level flight, but I couldnt keep it from rolling. Quite frustrating. Hopefully someone has some suggestions for me to try tomorrow morning.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

BK,

What is your ATV for aileron set at? If the ATV is set too low, the resolution will be poor, which will cause the problem you described.

Hi, I'm a new owner of a Oxalys 50 and have some questions to solve about their assembly.

First, I have a Saito 72GK ready to be used. Is this a reasonable engine for this model? I know that YS63 is the recommended engine but Id to use the one I have.

Second, how many and which servos must I use? I've preference for the Futaba ones.

Sorry cos maybe this questions have already been answered in the previous topics but the laziness didnt let me navigate through the pages.

The saito will work unless you plan to fly beyond intermediate pattern. I used a saito 82 and I'm happy. I also used a MK 400 CC tank, futaba 9001's-ail,9350-rudder,9001-elevator, and a Hitec HS-81 for throttle.

Depends on your goals for this plane? 9001's all around would be fine. If your going to fly it in competetion I would also do a hyde mount, and Bolly CF gear.

Its an awesome plane you'll love it. I just wished they made one bigger that wasnt $2800.

Ok Super D, thanx for reply.

In fact I was planning to buy a engine with fuel pump like OS70 Ultimate but heard that its too heavy for this model.

Do u know if YS63 is pumped?

Hold on... it's an Oxaly 50.
Build it as is and then learn to fly it.
Worry about Hydes and CF UC's another day, another plane.

too each there own, but the bolly gear and Hyde mount was money well spent, for ~$100.

Yes the YS 63 is pumped.
