X-TREME Composite Astral-XX
#26

Astral xx. The construction is only superficially similar to Otop, but very different in detail, to ensure quietness and rigidity. I have flown 4 different ones (including my own) and they all fly really well. The Anhedral tail works too, though i cannot compare it to one without it, i can say this design is unusually neutral, meaning in snaps and spins, rolls, it reacts to inputs very similarly wheather upright, inverted or at any other position. Quite uncanny, and I have flown may other noted designs before choosing this one.
The kit accuracy and light wieght is excellent, no trim needed, no knife edge mixing, CG turns out just right, the YS 160 powered ones tip the scales just under 4.6 kgs.

there is 3 of them flying currently at the flying field i am flying at, 2 with the 160 DZ and the other one with the webra 160. have personally seen the one with the DZ flying and i have to say that the plane flies slow, very slow, even on the downlines. the finish is also excellent.

What you say of Oxai is very true, they are amazing aircraft. However, having emailed Oxai Europe and US I have discovered that they will almost certainly not offer this model with an anhedral tail. One of the main reasons I bought this model was specifically because of the anhedral tail. There have been a few rumours that the tail is a gimmick, maybe it is maybe it is'nt. All I know is, is that Naruke recommends the -5 degree tail as it "makes for easier rolling circles and loops and there is less coupling". Plus it looks dam cool as well
Therefore if you want an anhedral tail Astral XX you go for either Naruke Hobby or the X-Treme version. Otherwise, the Oxai may well be your number one choice.
Whatever version people choose they will all be amazing aircraft and of the highest quality. I think the comments about the X-Treme Astral being of C-ARF construction are inaccurate and sell it far short of the fantastic plane it is.

Angus,
I was wrong. The Oxai built Astral XX does have an anhedral horizontal stab. I saw SN 01 at the factory last week and fell in love with it.

Well that’s me got the Astral and I'm very impressed. The overall workmanship and finish is to a very high standard and the fuz in particular is very light. The accessories that come with it are also very good.
I'm hoping to have it flying within the next week so I will post pics then.

Well, yes. Winter here isn’t normally too cold, just wet. Do get the odd very nice day though, but not often. Summer is much the same
"Building" process going well. Have got the rudder pull-pull done, tank, tail wheel, ail servos in, all the horns on, alu fuel tubes glued in. If I'm not drooling too much over my 50cc QQ Yak which will be here any minute I'll prob get the legs on tonight
Overall impressions of the model are good. Anhedral tail looks nice (-5). Finish is very good, not perfect like Oxai, but very, very good. I doubt you'd notice the difference at 5ft, only close up which I’m not really fussed about, especially when you consider it's cheaper than Oxai and the accessories you get with it. Fit of all the parts is perfect, and the fuz is extremely rigid. Not really much else to say about it apart from it's one great looking model.

Angus,
Happy New Year, great looking plane.
A few questions:-
What size of tank and prop are you using on the DZ?
Did you retrofitted that carbon fibre strip on the landing gear area, or does it came with the plane?
Also, is that an exhaust diffusser that you are using?

Hi Adrian, Happy New Year.
Don't know what size of tank it is, it came with the plane. I guess 20oz. Prop is 18X11 Engel. U/C and U/C area on plane are all standard, I've done nothing to them. Yes that's a diffuser I got from Canada a few years back. Doesn't do much to the exhaust trail unfortunately but it does take a slight edge off the exhaust note.
Overall the model went together very easily. Took me about 10 (very!) leisurely days to complete. Only thing I found was the front tail tube was a touch tight, wing locators at the front needed a small amount of work for the front of the wing to go in and the screws for the aileron and elevator horns that goes all the way through the surface were too short (just changed them for standard HT M3 allen bolt). These niggles were very minor. The pilot also needed shortened by 1/2".
Will hopefully test fly it soon.

Heh...that looks rather nice!
Angus on that picture on the underneath of the nose section I see the fuel tube come out then re enter the fuz, is that for clamping during re-fueling?
Hope it flies as good as it looks!
Good Luck
