...your Hatori 822 manifold is being a b!tch and keeps coming loose? Simple:
1) Chop the end off the 822 manifold
2) Locate a broken "old style" Hatori manifold, of which I’m sure, like us, you have thousands
3) Clean both ends and put the old style end into the 822
4) Silver solder together
5) Clean and fit to model
By doing this I have saved myself over £90 by not buying an Asano header. I also saved 19g over the original 822 manifold. If it works (and there is no reason why it won't work) I think we are just going to buy a Hatori 822 manifold and immediately modify it. Saves over £50 compared to an Asano header of which I heard there have been one or two problems with anyway.
See attached pic for end result (sorry for fuzziness).

What is wrong with the Hatori header? I was thinking of getting one as a spare header..
Are you using the long or the short pipe? The short one might be easier for the header.
What about the Asano, flange breaks?

My Hatori kept coming loose right at the exhaust outlet. Tried locking it with all sorts but none were high temp enough. Tried wrapping the thread with PTFE tape that worked for a while, then it came loose. Wouldn't be such an issue if the big nut was accessible but you have to dismantle the whole thing to get access to it. Real ***** design if you ask me.
Unless you can find very hi temp thread locker then I would advise you stay well away from the 822 header.
As for the Asano I’ve heard that there were problems in that "the nut was very easy to bend out of shape. Also the flange on two headers broke". And these guys are far from numpties, so if they are having problems you can be sure there are others having problems as well. No way I'm spending >£90 for a manifold that may not work.

Hi,
Has anyone tried to support this header with a support brace ? seems possible to support this with a brace from the carburator to the header ... hmmm .. just wonder before i get one in my new bird ...
The NMP header did the same before it was supported ... actually, the nut did not rotate,but the header did move up/down (caused by engine rotation and the "rigid" muffler) until the flange was weared down and everything became loose ...
