Default OS160FX Stainless Boca bearings

I just received a couple sets of "stainless" bearings from Boca for my 160FX. Hard to tell if they are stainless, they look just like regular chrome steel bearings. The stainless bearing races I have seen are lighter and brighter in color. On these Boca bearings the retainers are crimped not riveted and there are no numbers on the bearings, just like cheap chinese bearings. The rear bearings were listed as sealed, they are open.

I thought for the price they would have been SKF or NTN.

Does this sound right? I'm feeling like I got ripped off.

That stands for rubber seal, which mine don't have. I ordered their kit for the 160fx.

They may have sent you their version of the stock bearings, which are not sealed and not stainless. You might check out the Bob Pastorello Pattern Page and look at his information on the 160FX. I got a part number there and ordered a couple rear bearings, stainless and sealed (rubber sealed, not shielded), and they are not what you're describing.

Hmmm . . I know this thread was started a year ago . . but . . stainless steel is non magnetic. If the bearings are fully constructed of Stainless Steel, grab a magnet and check. If the magnet picks it up . . it's not stainless.

Cheers, Jeff

Jeff,

Not all stainless steels are non-magnetic. A lot of the higher strength ones (such as used in bearings) will hold a magnet.
