RE: Venus II
I'm not an engineer, but there are MANY more parameters to consider, as I'm sure you are aware.
Just one: If you've seen them run, you can see that the 1.20 has a more than 32% increase in power. Just one factor is the heat-dissipating ability of the 1.2oAX vs the .91FX, with the .91 being a bored-out .61 and therefore having a tendency to overheat unless it is run appropriately rich.
Hence the new .95 AX which is a whole new design with thicker cylinder walls, redesigned fins, and (I assume) porting, etc etc etc

RE: Venus II
Great to see some activity in this thread. I am still deciding on a new trim scheme for mine. Its a tough decision. I think I am going to keep the lines simple in comparison to the newer trim schemes found on the composite pattern birds. No.. I'm not going to use pink, light purple, and yellow. What the? Maybe a cross between the Focus scheme and a Jesky scheme.
What do you think?

RE: Venus II
Since this thread seems to have become active again, I do have an issue with my Venus. I am using a Saito 125 mounted inverted with a Keleo Pitts muffler. I have Hitec HS-5625MG servos mounted in the tail and wing with 4-40 pushrods and ball links to the supplied control horns. Although the plane is not quite complete, I have tried a trial check of the CG (cowl, battery, engine, muffler, tank and servos, installed. Basically everything except the receiver and wheel pants) and found that it is quite tail heavy. I can get it close with the battery (4 cell 1100 mAh) and 6 oz lead on top of the motor mount.
Having read most of this thread it seems that most folks found the model to be nose heavy instead. This has me a bit confused. Anyone else been nose heavy??
Regards.
Jerry

RE: Venus II
That is strange. I have virtually the same exact setup up. Except the muffler. Can you post a picture of your motor. I would like to see how the Pitts muffler fits.
Thanks. The Pitts muffler is heavier than the stock muffler isn't it?

Ok, I am convinced that the 120 AX is the best thing since sliced bread for this baby. Do any of you out there have a desire to sell their used 120AX and go electric or forsome other reason?

RE: Venus II
I'm on my third Venus II - still have two flying. The older one has a Saito 125 and its a nice combination. Using all JR821s, it came out slightly nose heavy so the 5C NiMH battery pack is mounted in the first bay behind the wing. Power is just OK, not great. Using an APC 15x8 and 30% fuel, I can just get thru the Advanced sequence.
The other plane uses a YS110S with a stock muffler. Its a little heavier than the Saito so I moved the tank back over the CG and mounted the 4C NiNM battery near the tail, just ahead of the servos. Balance was just about right at 33% MAC. But there's no comparison in performance - the YS turns an APC 16x8 over 9K RPM and has unlimited vertical. Its a great practice plane - it'll easily do the Master's sequence - it's way better than the pilot. Of course it doesn't fly like a 2-meter pattern plane, but hey, you can't beat it for just fooling around.

RE: Venus II
tele,
Can't get a pic right now, but here is a [link=http://www.keleo-creations.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=96&zenid=6f94c6f057e49765975015da14ef8032]link[/link] to the Keleo web page with 3 view pics. The weight is about that of the stock muffler. Very well made...

Jerry

RE: Venus II
I just talked to Central Hobby about the YS 110 (actually the 115 that is replacing the 110) and they said that the expected date is in 2 weeks. We will see. Is the YS powerplant that much better than the 120AX? They sure seem to think so. I asked about relative price and they had no clue. Said the 110 was $320ish in 2008 so needto extrapolate that into 2010 dollars. Much lighter and much more powerful than the 210AX. Again, this is life according to Central Hobbies.

RE: Venus II
It depends, they are two different animals. I had the 120AX and the 110FZ. 120AX swings a different prop, and takes some spooling up to get there. Needs throttle a bit in advance of the maneuver. The 110FZ has less overall power, but instantaneous throttle response.
I ran a 15x10 on the YS, which was 'over propped' as I was only running 20% nitro. I tried a 15x10 on the 120AX but it took too long to make power.
16x6 on the YS was amazing with my Yak, 16x6 is also really great on the OS in my Yak. 16x8 works well, 17x6 might be fun.
With 20% nitro, I'd say you're at a 16x6 or 15x8 with the 1.10 YS, and a 16x8 or 17x6 with the OS.
Personally, I loved the feel of the YS. I hated the over heating (gummed up regulator, gummed up check valve? Never got it figured out) and the down time and the fiddling time.
"YS: You love 'em 'till you don't". If I wasn't serious about competing and didn't mind the time figuring out and learning the motor, I'd still have a YS. But I need stick time and like the foolproof reliability of the OS - well really electric, but I'm not all switched over....yet.

RE: Venus II
I use a 17 x 6 on my OS 120AX. Lots of pull in the uplines and lots of drag at idle on the down lines. The engine doesn't over- rev either. I think this prop is a good choice for the OS 120AX on a Venus.

I will try to get a pic of the engine and muffler on Thursday.
