Default Yet another "Help me choose my next plane" thread

Possibly one of the single most asked questions out here, but opinions by the more experienced greatly help newbs like myself.

This'll be my first pattern plane, 3rd season flying. I have a ST G90 on hand for power.

After reading tons of posts, I've narrowed my choices to:
Epsilon 60
Quest 2
Excelleron 90
OMP Fusion 90

The purpose of this plane is strictly to learn pattern.

Any input on these planes for the purpose I'm after (or even planes I may have missed) would be appreciated.

Thanks.
Bob

I would go with at least the 90 size whatever plane you choose if you have the $$$. I have a few friends that started with the Excelleron 90 and it seems to be a pretty good flying starter pattern plane. Whatever plane you choose make sure that you take your time and make sure that it is as light and balanced as you are capable of building. Use good quality servos (dont have to be digital necessarily), lightweight gear and choose an engine that will have PLENTY of power for the weight of your plane. Having a lightbuilt, well balanced, properly setup and trimmed plane can make all of the difference in the world.

Heres a suggestion, just to consider.

I think another great option would be one of Mark Hunts "Insight"'s. Only thing is you would have to sell the ST90 and invest in a larger engine but for a couple hundred extra bucks you would not regret it. The rest of the gear would be the same stuff you would use in the excelleron.
I think he sells anything from plans up to a built up fuse and sheeted wings. You could probably get a set of sheeted wings and stabs and a set of plans for the fuse at a very reasonable price and come out close to the same price as you would spend on a 90 size plane and have one of the best pattern panes available. I have flown Marks and it is a GREAT flying plane and they are gaining popularity with some of the countrys top flyers all the way up to the Masters Level. I dont like to build or I would have one. Look for the "Insight Build, Another Wood Roach" thread in this forum.
Planes that are the full 2 meter size just plain fly better as a rule, the closer you can get in size to a 2M the better as long as you are buying a quality airframe. Another option is to get with the local guys that you fly pattern with and see if there are any reputable people that have a quality used 2M plane for sale. If you find a good 2M plane that is in your price range, you will be much happier with a 2M plane than a 90 size. I sold a good 2M plane for $800 to a guy a while back and sometimes you can pick them up ready to fly for $1200-$1500. That is how I got started after I realized my U CAN DO was not going to cut it for pattern.
