I live in SW PA. I plan to start flying pattern again next spring after a 5-years hiatus. It would be nice if we three could get together sometime to fly an learn together.

Sounds like It would be a good time. I think the more we can get together the better. One pair of eyes are good and two pair are better and three would be even better.

All we need is some good weather.

I really like flying with others. I think its easier to fly at a contest when your use to your caller. I have a lot of fun practicing with someone than when I am by myself and more the better. Aresti where exactly do you live? what do you plan on flying next year. Most contest are five to six hours away from us

I think he is in Pittsburgh.
Willie do you have a flying site up there?
I guess we could take turns flying at the different fields.

Yes, I have a flying field. It's an old strip mine. IF Your plane sits low to the ground the prop takes a beating. I was wondering if Aresti flies at the arcs field from what I hear its a really nice field. That field is only 45 min to an hour from my house. I have no problem driving. Does your field get crowded.

No one at the field most of the time. On Sunday we might have 4 people there and on a really bad Sunday 10 people show up. It is a grass strip 585 feet long and 150 feet wide. The flying site is less then a mile off of RT.33 on Brushy Fork Rd, follow the signs to the full scale airport. I fly off it all the time with my 60 size plane with retracts.

Sorry for the delay - I am in Pittsburgh and I fly at the ARCS field. I sold my pattern stuff (YS120's and older Matt's Diamant) some time ago. I will be picking up a 2M plane this holidays if I finally get through the waiting list.

I guess we all are going to have to get together after the holidays.
It looks like I'm the only one in WV. So the Pittsburgh field sound like the best for most. Aresti could you sent me a map to the ARCS field?
How bad is the road? Can I get my 24 foot trailer down it or do I need a 4x4 pick-up.

Here is a link to the map: www.gparcs.org.

The gravel road (off old Route 22) is not that bad - you will have to pay attention to the signs though.

Default cool

I have also made contact with a couple of fellas from the Butler area. they fly from the BAMS field. they may wish to meet up as well. so if you guys are lurking (patternwannabe and JDHammer) please speak up.

all you guys are more than welcome at my field, however it is not a very good field to fly pattern from. I fly at Mingo Park in Washington county. the ARCS would be best if they will have us.

Hubb

p.s. I am only giving a hard time about the road to the ARCS. there have been times in the past when it was just awful

Default SW PA pattern flying

Hi, I live about 40 minutes north of Pittsburgh, and fly with a club called MARS. Used to fly at the ARCS club.

A couple of months ago, I spoke with a guy named Pete Cosky, who is president of another PA club, the Beaver County Model Airplane Club, and he was talking about organizing a local pattern contest. I suggest that anyone interested should get in touch with him, as the more that are willing to participate, the more likely the event will actually happen.

The website for his club and email is:

I belong to beaver county field. Pete is a great guy and so are the people that fly there. I will talk to him tonight.

Why don't we put together an email list of the people interested in flying pattern in this area? We could easily distribute news/schedules, etc.

Default can I help?

I love the idea of news list. could I also suggest that we set up some sort of informal get together with everyone or maybe a primer contest to get others in the area interested as well. we could explain rules and judging criteria and such. everyone seems to be in agreement to meet at someones field anyway. might be a good start to get something going in our area. then shoot for an all out contest later in the summer!

let me know if I can help in any way

Yes. Here I am. Sign me up.

Just when I thought there was no pattern in Western PA....

Flying up at the BAMS should be no problem. Unfortunately, I gotta work on the 22nd.

I'm very excited at the prospects.

1) bestrcpilot
2) willie b.
3) Hubb
4) Todd 74
5) patternwanabee
6) Aresti

Do you guys want to send your email address? We could agree on a keeper of the list to send the news/schedules as soon as they are available.
