My question is this. if you currently fly pattern, what kind of plane did you start out with (details) and what kind of plane are you flying now? Is there something new that you want in the future?
I'll start I 'spose.
My first pattern plane, if you could call it that, was a Pagan. It was a 70s era glass fuse foam wing design. polyester resin, green and nothing stuck to it. I had a Fox Eagle II in the nose with a pipe (if you can believe that). This thing had incredible power. I picked it up at the Swap Shop at Toledo for a song.
My first pattern contest, I built a Typhoon 2000 with an OS 1.40. I had seen what Sportsman meant in the southeast, and it wasn't a Kaos. That plane ( and a LOT of fuel) garnered me 2nd place at my first contest, and 8 1st place wins after that. This plane ROCKS for lower class stuff.
Next season I am working on a design of my own. It's based loosely on the Typhoon 2000, but with totally different wings and stabs. For an engine, I have plenty of OS 1.40s, but I may try the new 3M Mintor.
So how bout you?

First contest: Hobbico Spectrum..... When I got there and saw the other pattern planes I was afraid to get it out of the car. That was a mistake, I should have flown.
Second contest: Jekyll .60 (original Pattern Tek kit) that hung in my garage for 10 years. I like paint. It weighed 9+ lb.
Rest of season: Tai Ji .60. Served me well and kept heat on the boys with the big planes (although they still beat me most of the time).
Next season: Focus. Flies great! (Watch out!)
Season after that: Gasser, if I can get one legal. I can burn 2 gallons in 1 day with the Focus. That adds up!
As far as design characteristics for an airframe, I want one nice and fat. Lots of drag helps me keep speeds constant. The Jekyll I started with was so thin it's almost a profile. The focus is good, but I wouldn't mind something even dirtier than that. Also, I like simplicity.. No enclosed pipes, retracts, plug stabs, nose rings, etc.. Top access would be good too. (I hate the pipe channel on the Focus)..

Lets see
1. Ultimate Kaos 40 size
2. Conquest 7 from RC City - I remember thinking how big it was at the time LOL
3. A pair of Finesse 2+2
4. I had 3 Vector's from PTX
5. Then a pair of ZN Line Evolis XXL's - still building one of them flew one this past season.
6. The latest is a ZN Line Enigma which is not finished yet
The next one is probably going to be an AA version of my friends design for me to fool around with

Well I guess I'm dating myself here.
Kraft Kwik-Fli and a Taurus, Kaos .40 and it still flies 27 yrs later.
Currently after a long layoff I'm flying a Prophecy and and a new Aries. Have an Entropy in the fold waiting for some glue and paint.

Wow didn't think this would be such a list!
1 Akro Knight 40 - anyone know this one? Got dirt in the carb friend was trying to hold it up then down to set the needle and knocked the stab off. We glued it back on between rounds
2 Lanier Dart - Flew well but ugly
3 UFO - forgot to pull up the antennae
4 MK Magic - Battery failure now resides in the Hudson river
5 Eureka
6 Boxer120 - My first scratch build mid- aired with a POS sport plane.
7 Kyosho Aurum 40 - Winter plane
8 Sequel - Smashed very badly due to radio failure
9 Prophecy - This years primary
10 Focus - Next years primary

1st year - H9 Edge 540. It was over the weight/size limits but nobody asked/cared. Got me hooked on pattern.
2nd year - Scratch built Boxer 120. Sportsman, Intermediate.
Next year - Carrera X (building it now). The Boxer is, well, boxy.
I just gotta have one of these sleek 'glass jobs and decided it's time to admit my addiction and get serious about feeding it.

Guess I am dating myself also.
Started with Kwik Fli III and Enya .60 and Kraft Gold Medal...man what a set up.
Had a Tiger Tail and Bootlegger but kinda settled in with Norm Page's Mach 1. One fine flying plane. Did very well with them.
Had a long break due to work making it impossible to compete and began again with a Pusuit then Prophecy and Hydeout to a Typhoon 2000.
Ah some good memories!!!

Dang Tony!!!! Ya know I remember a lot of those planes. You're one of the guys that got me wanting to fly pattern.
I know you're enjoying the jets now, but I have to ask, why did you quit competing in pattern? Do you still mess with it at all?

OK, I don't have the list that some of these guys have, but here goes anyways:
1. Hanson Runaround w/OS91. Won District champion in Novice with this plane.
2) Arch Nemesis w/ST2300. Probably the best flying plane I've had.
3) Hanson ELite w/YS91, w/retracts (all the above were fixed gear). Another very nice flying plane.
4) CG Finesse with TT1.20. Ballistic and could never slow it down enough to enjoy flying it.
5) Jupiter w/OS1.40, Very pretty plane w/wheel pants and spats.
6) Coming full circle, I"m bulidng another hanson runaround w/SAtio 100.
I tend to build one plane a season and sell one plane. WIll compete next year with the Jupiter and the RUnaround as a back up.

I think the better question would be to rank your past pattern planes. In that case mine would be:
1) ARch Nemesis - Really like the way this one flew
2) Hanson Elite
3) Hanson RUnaround
4) CG Finesse
