LOL I could take the prize with my own life story, but I ain't sharing that one publicly....sounds too depressing.
Man a sledge hammer??????? I believe I'd have to get a shovel and a bag of lime, and fertilize the garden...and not with the planes...

This guy I know found Jesus soon after this and is happily married to the same woman. She just needed to persuade him to see the light. Mike

I got a bad one. I know a guy who went down to his workshop one day only to find out that his wife who was angry at the hobby and him smashed all of his planes with a sledge hammer. 8 planes all at once. She also destroyed his radio equipment. Mike

Not as bad as Hester's friend (or whom ever), While flying IMAC, crashed a 35% Edge 2 days before a contest due to a flameout in torque roll, worked 10 hrs to finish my 37% Extra, and the Ail fluttered 30 sec into the first flight. Was strange watching the wing flex 6-10 inches (it looked like) until one wing panel broke in half prior to the auto rotation into the ground.
The kicker was I had a brand new Well Cargo trailer waiting in Waco we were going to go get the next day, I just didn't have any planes to put in it. Luckily John Johnson helped me strip the extra out, and wouldn't let me throw the fuse and crashed things away, before leaving for Waco, so That is when I decided to rebuild it.
To help keep your chin up, I repaired both, although not composite. If you wonder where my knowledge of plane $$ comes from, there ya go.
Look at it another day when you feel like building and it will look different.

Mike sorry to here of your misfortune. I have done some stupid things myself. Put it away for a while and then go back and repair it. I just finished my edge up from ripping the gear out at the Jetero IMAC event. I was extremely pissed at myself for screwing up the landing. I had to wait a little while before I fixed it. Not as bad as some of the other stories here. I have a buddy that his fiancé got mad at him (whom he lived with) and destroyed his brand new just finished Funtana 90. I don’t know what she used at first but when the new Saito 100 broke off she used it as a battering ram to finished off the plane and then when too town on his radio equipment. It took him while to find all of the pieces to his transmitter. The radio didn't hold up to the Saito. LOL

He might of found Jesus. Me, I'd find Smith and Wesson...[:@]
That's the second time I've heard of that happening. The first was about 25 years ago and she smashed everything that was in his workshop (he had pictures; his lawyer recommended he take them). There was a silver lining: he had his pattern ship and field equipment in his car. Fortunately, he didn't own a handgun...

Well, here I am "sharing" again.
I got picked on at Jetero for the title of this thread, but hey if you cant share you dumb mistakes and laugh about them with your friends then whats life good for huh?
I have the plane repaired. I went to the Jetero contest to see all of my friends this weekend and it inspired me to get cracking. Lone Star made some suggestions as to how to make the repair as well as SWK (thanks guys) and so I took their advice and started working on it.. Within 2 hours I had it back in surprisingly good shape again.
Here were the tasks I had to tackle.
1. CA the lateral crack in the fuse back in place. I was extremly careful with it and only had some 1 tiny area of foam disentegrate.. I filled this void with epoxy and microballons and it feels more solid than before.
2. Glass it from the inside. I laced 6oz fiberglass over the edge of the pipe tunnel on both sides and extended it over onto the walls of the fuselage.
3. RE secure the DEPS support bar. It had broken away from the fuse.
4. CA and glass the 2" split down the belly of the plane just behind the exhaust exit hole.
5. CA and glass the fuselage where it cracked just behind the firewall. It was really just a superficial crack in the paint so I CA'ed and then glassed with 3/4oz glass.
6. Re glued the servo mounting tray in place.. Last time I used medium CA, this time I used epoxy and micro balloons.
7. Repaired a couple of superficial cracks in the chin cowl.
8. While I was at it I replaced the original landing gear (which had split several times and I got tired of repairing) with the new gear that Central Hobbies is carrying. I also raised the wheelpants up about 3/8". They looked nice down low, but the gras was eating them up.
Bottom line is its ready to fly right now and I am very surprised at how well it went back together. Lone Stars tips on how to go about meticulously refitting and CA'ing the skin of the fuselage back in place(felt like I was putting Humpty Dumpty back together
) was a marked success for me.. The fuselage looked like hell, but after moving things back in place and tacking it with CA until the glass was in place really made for a clean repair.. Its just a small line down the side of the fuse,, its significant, but unless you are looking for it its barely noticeable. And where the buckle lines are,, is stiffer than the other side of the fuselage.. I think its going to be just fine. Thanks a bunch guys for the tips, both of you probably didnt even realize how much you were helping me at the time..
Now, we will see how it flies.

here are a few pics... They are external. The fiberglass on the inside blends in with the fuselage and doesnt show up in pictures.
The repairs are pretty solid and small areas of bodywork can be done to repair but until Im ready to repaint it I would rather have little cracks showing that have it look like a bondo-mobile. I wil deal with the airbrush work eventually.

It doesn't look as bad to us as I'm sure it does to you because you're mad at yourself.
Don't worry about it as long as it flies good, I've got several of the same places on my
OTOP that I'm beginning to ignore after I've flown it and it flies ok after the repairs. See
you in Nederland.

Why is that knocking the new out of a plane always happens, and THEN it's gets good to fly?
As for the significant (b)other taking to my toys with anything than kid gloves, there would be a world of hurt after that.
Good to see you didn't give up Mike.

I saw Mike fly that plane before the "new" was knocked off and if he gets any better then the guys in advanced better hold on the their hats. He was dang smooth with her before the oops happened. Looks good Mike and I look forward to seeing her back in the air in Nederland!
