I have spoken with Brian before - seems like a good guy. I'm sure his intensions are good, but he's clearly caught up in something that is stressful. Family issues? At some point he will respond, it just will not be timely - as we expect.

Thanks Eddie, I got the wing tube spars today. I started building the fuse and set up the rudder and tail wheel. I'm going to do the main gear next and stop there so i can do the wings and have a reference point to align the stab.

After assembling The Evolution and my son flying it in a contest this is my assessment. You are getting what you pay for. There is quite abit of hyperbole in the decription on the website. The covering is not Oracover! It melts at low heat so be careful. As far as mounting the elevator servos, there is no way to achieve mechanical advantage if the servos are mounted in the stab as is in the plan. Pay attention to the letters on the firewall template. They were reversed E and M.Plans are very vague at best and full of mistakes. The landing gear seem to be adequate if you install a 4mm carbon fiber tube inside the supplied gear tube and make certain that the tube will not twist in the mount after you shorten them at least 2 inches. As far as the shear webbing, I talked to Ultra RC and they said not to worry about it, but after reading this thread and talking to others who had witnessed multiple failures, I cut off the covering and installed shear webbing properly(with grain verticle). The fire wall is very weak and needs reenforcement. If you don't strengthen it, It could cost you BIG Time. As far as trying to get in touch with Ultra RC, Good Luck......There ain't nobody home. They are sold out of every thing and won't return a call. All this being said, if a forthright vendor would sell this plane, I would consider purchasing another for a backup. Mine came out at 10# 2oz. with an OS160 and flys well without too much mixing.$405 shipped is not to shabby. Hey OMP. You sell the Giles, How about the Evo. You can make chicken salad out of chicken !@#$%^ if the price is right.

Scratch the comment that the gear may be adequate, after several repairs they got replaced also. If the Focus looked esthetically a little more pleasing, I would have purchased the it and saved some money and a lot of time. Arch you were right again. Maybe I'll listen next time.

Good Job!
Does anybody know if Ultra Rc will ever get anymore of these in stock? Or if any shops around the country have any?
I have emailed and called Ultra Rc with no luck, also I have tried a few shops that are dealers for these planes.

JPBIII. I also placed well taking a second in sportsman this past weekend in Huntsville out of 10 pilots . My setup is Webra 1.45 Bolly Pipe and JR 9303 with digital servos.

I was able to get another one from a person at that contest . It would appear that Ultra RC is dead. It is a real shame the plane really flies well after a few mods are done and the price is right to.

Keep watching the For Sale part of RCU I see them on there from time to time.
What mods did you make on yours?

Thanks

I judged several of Mark's flights at the Lake City contest. He flies very well. Just needs some good coaching and some polish and he'll be a force to be reckoned with.

I have not changed the wings yet. May do so in the future. Looks ok so far. May be the snap rolls causing the problems. I dont have those manuvers in sportsman or intermediate.

Look back in this thread its all in there . If I remember Troy Newman wrote those posts. In short remove bottom covering and double the shear webbs, the grain most run vertical and not horizontal . Double it in each bay root to tip . I used 1/16 medium balsa and CA . Just cut for a good snug fit in each bay and glue in. Also each time you cut one make two, mine fit the other wain as well with almost no sanding The bays on the inside where the balsa skin is are a little harder just slot it in as Troy says, it will work. I gained 2 oz after doing mine. It has apprx 200 flights with no problem.

The problem was going to be fixed in the last run they made but I have a second one from sometime in the middle of production and it was not fixed. Other than that I put Bolly gear in with no problem . You can also find that in this thread . There is lots of greal info here.

This plane can fly very well I have brought home several trophies with is this year . I will be glad to help you all I can.

I purchased one and moved to another plane, I have the Evo. and I don't have plans on finishing it. Nothing has been done to it at all,I might have an interest in selling it depending on location. PM me if interested.
