Default Passing of a good friend and Great Flyer

I regret to inform you that our good friend Ray Rhodes of Groves, Texas suddenly passed away this morning. Those of you from the Texas and Louisiana Districts may know Ray. He flew in the Masters Class and has been a part of the RC community for 40+ years. He was right at 70 years old and STILL a great flyer until he passed this morning without warning. Those of you that knew him know what an exceptional man he was and one of those guys that every person he came in contact immediately liked and respected. He is one of the best TRUE friends I have ever had and my regular practice partner. He will be very sorely missed.

Funeral Arrangements are initally being handled at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches, Texas.

Mike

Hi , I first met Ray and his Wife in 1960. I still have that picture of them In my Mind. They were two beautiful people. They were on Ray's motorcycle. Ray had the build of Mr. America and Janice looked like a Greek goddess . I have never seen anybody that did'nt like him. I never heard him cuss or talk bad about anyone. When I started flying R/C I only hoped that I could fly half as good as Ray. When we were flying pattern in the 60's it seem like no one could beat him . When I quit flying in 1967 Ray had 63 throphies most of them First place . I remember when He won First place Scale at the KingOrange meet in Florida, all of his student met him at the airport when he flew back. Ray was Band director at a Jr high school in the Groves, Texas. When Ray got his dog Hanna he brought her and a lady that he said he wanted to marry, to our house. He kept Hanna and dropped the lady. I have lost three friends in the last few years, there will be nobody to replace them. If everybody was like those guys there would be no wars.

" Fly away Ray" you will be missed. The greatest guy in the world
