Not to start a war here but I am getting interested in pattern style flying and plan on purchasing either a Venus II with the OS 120 engine or a Showtime with a Saito 125. I am leaning towards the Venus II based on positive reports here on RCU.
I would like to here your opinion. Again, I have an Aeroworks Edge 540 for any 3D flying I do so my interest is in a pattern plane.
Thanks,
Mike

I've had both. The Venus 2 is much better as a pattern plane. I have an OS 1.20 AX in it. More precise, less sensitive, just better all around. Be sure to put all of your servos in the tail, as the CG is hard to get back where you need it.

Not to change the subject, but during the labor day weekend I went to the local Hobby People store; they sold me an Excelleron 90 for 150. Am wondering if they are dumping old stock for new design. My first one runs with an OS 120 AX. Plenty of power. Heard the Showtime is a better 3D plane.

Indeed the Exceleron series is (has) been discontinued, I got it straight from the horses mouth at global hobbies. But that dosen't mean you didn't make a good choice. I feel I did, especialy after reading up on all the post about the Exceleron. I to bought the 90 and looking forward to a good flying ship. It is said that the YS-110 is a great companion to the plane having more than enough power for any maneuvers. I choose a ST GS2300 1.4 2stroker for mine.
I'm currently flying a Exceleron 50 with a Magnum .70 4S in it, and it is a good flyer as well.
I really don't have the time or the money for a high dollar pattern ship, so the ARF is the way for me.
As for the next release of a plane for them, it is 2 meter ship. I have seen it fly and it's a dandy. Ok it's not your $3000.00 ship, but it will be usable up to the advanced class. It is being manufactured by Model Tech and called the "Remedy 120". It should have already been on the market, but there were several changes made that set production back almost 6 months, but, I belive it will be worth the wait.
I wasn't quoted a price on it yet, but I would guess they will be in the $400.00 to $500.00 range, and past history says they will be on sale when released.

MikeRuth,
Any place I could look at this new guy? BTW, in all the threads I have read concerning the Exc. series, the YS 110 is the hands on favorite.

Well unfortunetly no, I wish I had taken pictures when I saw it at the the local field. It was in a red white and blue paint scheme though as I recall.
I'll be asking some more about it with the distributor in the next few days.

I have a Venus 2...it's a great introductory pattern model. mine though is electric.
just as an aside, at the BC pattern championships, there were four of them, one electric,
two powered with .91's and one had a YS 110 in it.....They all performed well, and each pilot was a tropy recipient....sounds good enough for me.

15x10 APC. I tired a 16x8 APC, but it was too slow in anything but calm weather. I also tried a 16x10, but it was too much prop. I flew the 15x10 for the first time yesterday in a pretty stiff wind, and it seemed to do ok.

Jon,
I just picked up one. What prop are you using on the 120AX.

Been flying with the 15X10. It is a bit fast in 5-10 mph wind. Only 6 flights so far. Will try the 16X8 next. So the real answer is a 15.5X9 or 16X9<g>. Now if there was only a 3-blade that would do the job.
Got this plane from a local guy. It only had 4 or 5 flilghts on it and two of them were mostly mine. Can't believe he let me have it for $500. Just installed my own servos and it was ready to go. Final weight is 8-3/4lbs. Just used recommended CG and it seems about right. Looks like it will require very little mixing if any. Great plane to practice the new Masters sequence on in the off-season. Very good rolling plane by the way.
