Default SURPASS-90 Pattern Plane - Has anyone heard of them before?

HI all.

This new plane has just surfaced in a couple of Aus. magazines yet there are no reviews as such. I'm just wondering if anyone has seen them yet or know why they are like?

I have an Excelleron 90 that is a bit tired and since i cannot buy a replacement anymore, i thought this might be a good plane.

What do you think?

thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,
I ordered two of them and received them 20 days before.
The model is exactly the same as the Fliton Infinity 90.
The transaction with Mr. Huang from Enjoyhobbies was flawless.
The model is very nice and super light. You can find reviews about it as Infinity 90. Just google search a little.
For anything about it just ask
Happy new year

Mike, the Surpass90 is copy/original of the Fliton Infinity90. I owned this airplane, and it is one of the best I ever had. Flew much better then I was capable of.

Originally, when the Fliton Infinity was introduced, there was a Infinity, and a Infinity 3D. I think the only one actually sold was the 3D version (with counterbalanced rudder and elevators). The Surpass seems to be the original version, without counterbalance. For pattern, this is perfectly OK.

Stavros: you will be very happy with this plane. Just make sure you strengthen the engine compartment BEFORE you put any flighttime on it.

thanks for the replies.
I have had an email from a distributor here in Australia and this is what he had to say.

"If they are, indeed, "badge engineered" versions of the same models, then I suggest that Fliton has them built in the TM factory, as I know the Surpass is definitely built by TM, not sourced from Fliton."

From the few threads on this model on RCU, it looked like the plane was built for electric from the outset and since i am planning to use either Saito 1.00 or Saito 1.25 (which i both already own) I figured the nose would need considerable reinforcing.

Feel free to check out http://www.thehobbyspecialists.com.au/ as they have a few other models listed on their website too.

Regards

Mike

Actually Fliton always advertised this model as a "nitro" plane. A lot of people converted it to electric though. In my opinion, you can quite easily strenghten the nose section using epoxy and some 5x5 mm balsa. Is a 5 minute job. I would definitely go for 4-stroke, since the plane is designed to mount the engine inverted. Not so easy to start a 2-stroke inverted!

In my opinion it was designed with a YS90 in mind.

Here a picture with some text.

Saito FA-100 would definitily do the job. I flew incredible loopings with my FX-91, and they are comparible. If you want that "unlimited vertical", the Saito 125 would be good! If I would do it all over again, I would definitely go for the 125!

Stavros, does your model have the balanced rudder/elevator? I added a picture of my deceased Infinity as example.

another question...

does the wing come as 2 pieces that need to be joined or is it already done in the factory?

also, i currently fly the Excelleron 90 with the Saito 1.25.
Is the Infinity a similar aeroplane to the Excelleron in terms of size and performance? My excelleron weights 8.5 pound with the Saito 1.25.

Do you have any other photos of your Infinity?

No, the surfaces are not counterbalanced as the photo shows but they are very big. Note that the BB horns are included.
The wing is a one piece, made in the factory.
I am planning to reinforce the firewall area (for the YS110) and also the landing gear plate.
I already ordered a Bolly replacement gear as the one supplied is stiff (thick aluminum) and also on the heavy side (the 2 legs weight 140 gr).

some pictures of the Infinity.

The hardware shown by Stavros is identical as was shipped by Fliton. Very good. I did replace the pull-pull, since it vibrated loose.

hi.
what motor did you use?

how did you go for weight?
will the Infinity/Surpass take 2 servos in the tail for elevator control or would that be too tail heavy?
I am thinking of using the Saito 1.00...

I used a OS-MAX 91-FX with a Merker tuned pipe. Very comparable to a Saito FA-100.

The plane is setup for the servo's in the fuse (at the wing). I think it will be OK when you start moving your battery to the back. CG should not be an issue.

wagen, do you have any photos of the inside of the fuse?
im curious to see how everything is laid out.

Also, how did you mount the motor? hard or soft mount?
Has the front experienced undue vibration? did you beef up the nose area with triangle stock and epoxy?

thanks

mike

Yes, I did beef up the nose area with balsa and epoxy. Was just too lazy to get triangle, so I used square .

Let's see if I still have some pictures... otherwise Stavros can show them.

Yep, here's a picture. I replaced the pull-pull later, as you can see in this picture I had problems with the quicklink coming of the thread, here I already replaced one.

I had problems of vibrations due to the way I mounted the engine and the exhaust pipe. I should have never have tried to put a 2-stroke with pipe in this plane. It is setup for 4-stroke, that's what you should use!

So, after some trial and error, I mounted engine and pipe on rubber mounts. This worked fine, and fixed the vibration. Might be that this caused some problems, but I heard from others they also had problems with the nose and the design. So, beef it up, and you'll be fine.

also, how did you go with the balance point... did you have to add lead to either end?

how is the elevator actuated; is it one sero with a Y pushrod?

i am going to try to use dual elevator servos. I would have used a single JR 539 servo if using a y pushrod. but since i will have one servo per elevator half, i am thinking that a pair of HS81 servos should be sufficient.
I have seen another member use Futaba 3102 servos which have a little more torque than the HS81, but I dont think the difference was too much.. will have to check the specs when i have a little more time.

I've been trying to order one from hobby-estore, but the link that puts it in the shopping cart is not there and I couldn't find a phone number to call direct. I've sent a couple of emails yesterday without response. Anybody bought from these guys before?

Hi Mike

I've been dealing with Terry at The Hobby Specialist (THS) in the last week and he is a very reasonable man to deal with. He doesn’t sell directly to the public but all of his items are sold through Monaro hobbies http://www.monaromodels.com.au/
I tried to buy one of THS distributed planes through a local Brisbane hobby shop (on the north side at Stafford) but they didn't seem interested in helping a local [:@]- so I purchased my model through Monaros. I was looking at buying an ESM Adrenaline 120 but after my dealings with Terry and Monaro hobbies I will look at the Surpass as well.

BJOR

funny you should say that... i just bought one through a store in Victoria that Terry deals with.
Ordered it one day, got it the next! now that was fast.
You are right; Terry is a true gentleman to deal with and so are the stores that he deals with. Service was first class.

Where abouts are you in Brisbane?
if you would like to have a look at my kit, you are more than welcome... it is very very light and quite well made.

my email address is
[email protected] if you would like to get in touch.

ps - i am on the southside in Greenslopes.
