I would like first to ask if there is an international governing body of f3a. If yes , why dont they try to make it accepted as an olympic sport. Have they ever applied or tried to make it one?

Default F3A is the international designation....

The FAI is the international governing body for aircraft type stuff.

www.fai.org

They do have the international air games which is a sort of olympics of flight...but thats about it. go to their website to see what they have going....

Troy,
don't you competing and competitive guys att pattern would want to compete in an olympic game. I know of world championships and their meaning but their not close to an olynpic game, Yes you compete virtually the same guys but at a different event that happens once in four years not every year.

Sorry guys this is the answer to my question:

Inspired by the Olympic model, the leaders of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI - the World Air Sports Federation) collaborated to develop the World Air Games (WAG). This three-dimensional Olympiad of air sports is the elite forum where the world’s finest aerial athletes are crowned champions in the different FAI Air Sports.

This paragraph was taken from the FIA web site. Thanks troy for anwering my question.

It's probably considered a form of motorsport. Same reason that car racing isn't an olympic sport.

Default Probably not a sport

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think our kind of building and flying might be more of an art form than a sport.

What is the definition of sports ? It has evolved significantly in the last century to cover much more than just physical type of sports, but also mentally challenging ones like chess. I guess r/c flying is a form of motor sport where flying skills, engineering excellence, and the art of building converge. Just my 2C.........

Mostly because of equipment. Hard to standardize without stagnating technology. And becaust it uses a motor, and isn't relying on direct human power or guidance (in the sense of skiing or sitting in a bobsled). And would you really want the Russians and French involved?

Interestingly, most of the Olympic sports actually require you to empirically beat somebody. To actually win, and cross the line first, or throw the farthest, or make tangible points. I can't stand figure skating. And rythmic gymnastics.

Well, we have been working with the bodys concerned and have managed to get Artistic-Aerobatics accepted as a sport to be entered in the World Air Games. This will be flying 2meter designs and Helicopters in a series of rounds to music. The rules have been created by the Worlds top pilots both model and full size and will allow all countries to take part!
