I am looking to start learning the AMA pattern. I was wondering what is a good flying pattern plane under 11 pounds? I was looking at a CG Extra 300, but I do not really know what I am looking for. What are some good planes to fly in the AMA competitions? Thanks for any information.

There's a contest in Ocala FL. next week end would be a good place to get info and see what people are starting out with.

I agree with Steve completely.. go to the contest, ask questions, see what works. Don't be shy. I think you'll find most people are happy to answer questions.

Sounds good, I think I will check it out. Is there a web page or anything I can look at to get directions and more info?

I Started pattern with a Goldberg extra about 5 years ago- ST .90 and BBservos. it was great to start with. just tone down the ailerons a bunch and practice. It won several time in the intermediate class here in Minnesota. I also used the plane to start in IMAC- a terrific all around sport plane.

Detailed info about the club and the site is at www.ocalaflyingmodelclub.com.

Also look for planes for sale at the contests..
