Hi all,
Just a general knowledge question here. Before the '01 and '03 FAI sequences came out FAI had (in 99 anyway) schedules labelled "C" "D" and "E". Just wanted to know how it was determined which schedule to fly and when, and if there was a procedure behind it - like was it schedule D for one year and E for the next?
Thanks,
Ken

The A schedule was the prelim and the B was the finals...Then after the next Worlds....B was the old finals and now became the prelim...and C was now the finals....and so on....Then in 2000 the Ciam made the change to much more complicated and difficult sequences...The numbering sequence was the P-03 and F-03 not because they were the 3rd year of flying the new format or the P-03 sequence was the 3rd version of the Prelim sequence...but rather the 03 denotes the year they would be used at the worlds.....So the worlds will come this year in Sept of 2003 and after the Worlds the P-03 and F-03 sequences are no longer the current F3A sequences...At that time we will be flying P-05 and F-05...Because the worlds are over and the sequences are "dead".....Now local events will still use the 2003 Prelim sequence until next season 2004...but in all practical purposes the Worlds is the end of the F3A season.
Because the Finals patterns were made more difficult and complicated in order to separate the top dogs at the Worlds...The Finals schedule should only be flown at a World, National or Continental Championships. Now in the USA and other countries the NATS and the Team Trials are the only place the Finals schedules should be flown per the FAI sporting code.
Back in the day of the A-B-C-D-E sequences most local contests flew the Prelim schedule on Saturday for 4 rounds and then on Sunday they switched to the finals schedule....What ever that schedule was....In todays environment there are only about a dozen or so pilots even in the USA that are flying the Finals sequence...The reason is there is no opportunity to compete with this sequence except the Team trials or NATS....
Now the Final schedules are extremely difficult including rolling loops, Rolling circles, more complicated roll-snap combos.....
At this same change to the Prelim and dedicated finals schedule the introduction was made of Unknowns to the Finals format...This unknown is picked by the Finalists......Its a pretty interesting setup...
