Can anyone reccomend 40 size plane? I have a OS 70 SurpassII lying around. I know the Saito 72/82 is the lighter engine, but I dont want to fork out some more money other than on a entry level pattern plane. Thanks

is a 70 enough engine for the venus 40? just wondering. i've got a 91 on my 50 scale pattern. it goes quite well.

Plenty of engine for the Venus. Putting one together with a Magnum 70fs on it right now for a friend. Had to grind some of the motor mount for clearance in order to line up the spinner with the cowl. Probably a ten minute modification.

Thanks Guys. My LHS stock Hanger 9, I was allso wondering about the Aresti 40. Any experience with this plane with a OS70 Surpass II? The Showtime 50 looks really impressive, but I suppose a 70 just wont be enough grunt!

The Aresti is another great flying plane. I would double check the gear plate on it. I saw one of them come out at a local field on grass that wasnt that hard of a landing. It might have been a fluke, I dont know. It pulled out clean though, but I would check and make sure you are happy with how it is in there. Easier to beef it up early. As I said, this might have been a fluke situation. The plane flies great though. Actually I'd say it flies exactly like the Venus.

I dunno about the Arresti. I know Steve Homenda used to lay down the whoopin on 2 meters with one, but nowadays I just think there are better planes. Dave used to have one and I tried to help him trim it, but I think it is just too short coupled as I never could get the thrust like I wanted it. But I know it's a good plane, it just woulnd't be my first choice.

The Javelin 2 is supposed to be one of the best as well.

Good point on the Javelin Mike. That is another excellent airplane, and would be great with a .70. I flew one with a YS .63 and it flew great, and I'm sure the .70 would be in the same ball park.

i personally think a Kougar would be a good plane to have. the only drawback to it is that it is a kit not ARF. it flys great and dotn have any bad habbits. if you can find one used i would jump on it. i dont know how that four stroke would pull it but i have an OS .46 ax with 11x7 apc prop with tuned pipe and has all kinds of power. unlimited verticle. i think i should put 1 size bigger pitch to try to get a little more speed out of it so it will knife edge better but other wise this is a great plane to have. it glides forever. so you dont have to be good at dead sticks it lands like a dream.

Hmmm...I think I'd have to disagree with the Kougar, or with the King Kobra. I've had about 5 Kougars and 6-8 K Kobras in my life....

Good planes, but not the best in the world for pattern. very fast and the rudder is wierd. Plus that Kougar CAN be a tip stalling SOB. Even with the CG far forward. It's really short coupled and the wing planform is not all that great.

Would probably work ok for ballistic pattern, but wouldn't be my first choice for modern pattern.

The CA Models Widebody 40 is excellent. It would fly pattern better if you shorten the ailerons and elevators to not run to the tips. This is very easy to do.

Yep, that's a much better plane too. Are they available and are they in ARF form?

Anyone have a picture of Venus 40 with a OS 70 SurpassII installed??? I would like to sidemount the engine and not inverted. If you get a nose over, the tappet cover is gone or maybe worse!!![X(]
