Hi Folks,
I’m looking for the best “affordable” option in 2x2 pattern plane arena. A well built ARF priced at $ 1.000 dollars or less. And most important, something that can be correctly powered by a YS 140 Sport instead of the high end, high priced 160/170 Dingo's. Must be built light and strong, and almost maintenance free, for many, many hours of practicing during the next two years. Any suggestions ???
Francesco.

I think I'd have to recommend the Focus II from Piedmont models. http://www.piedmontmodels.com/FocusII.html

If it has to be an ARF I would have to second the Focus II. I had one with a YS 1.40L in it that a masters pilot put through his sequence with no problems. It was a nice plane and I do miss it.
If you want to build there are alternatives tot he Focus.

The Epsilon 120 is an excellent suggestion. However for those needing a good quality ARF in the same power class, but easier on the pocketbook, consider the WM [link]http://ecsvr.com/abm/shopexd.asp?id=2445[/link] Spot-on 120. (I am a fan of both CA and World Models.)

The Epsilon, you order today and you have it today in your Fowarder for FREE. The Epsilon is also a 3D captable.
The Special Edition now comes with Chip Hyde Aluminium Cntrol Horm with bearing.
The pictures are from the 90, but is the same scheme.

Hands down, no questions. Focus 2. There are no major quality concerns...and they fly really well. A lot of the other ARF companies there you dont know what you get. CA has had some MAJOR quality control issues. Yes, people have gotten good ones, but you can find a LIST of people that got crap too...and that includes the newer Genesis' The Focus 2 is all wood and is very rigid, and handles guys just getting into pattern very well. it'll go together in less than a week, and flies well with a 1.40Sport. A lot of the newer designs would be underpowered with the 1.40Sport, but the Focus 2 is a great combination. The other thing you get with the Focus is excellent support from Dave Guerin and the guys at Piedmont.

Hello Francesco ( or should I say Chachalaco)
Why don´t you try the Fliton Inspire 90 , you could easily fit there a 120 four stroker , ( I am not so sure about the 140) , this one is supposed to be a F3a trainer , and besides, Fliton has quite a reputation for making insanely light aircraft.
I have an inspire 60 acro, powered by a os max 81 fs alpha , and I might honestly say that it´s the best plane I´ve ever had.

I can say the same thing about the inspire , no bad habits, it tracks like on rails , I can do 100m wide knife edge loops with no problem, and I can slow it down on landing so much without stalling , that you wouldn´t believe it

I fly the Inspire-90 with a Saito-125. The only problem I have sofar is getting the CG forward enough. I guess with a YS140, you should not have this problem.....
Sofar the frame is holding up very well, then again I build my ARFs with care. I have about 60 flights on it sofar.
