Default Typhoon?

I recently traded for a used Typhoon 2+2 pattern ship. It is in very good shape and I was told Troy Newman actually built her. I am wondering what would be a good engine and servo selection for just a high quality sport setup? I am not interested in pattern competition but really want to fly the plane. I was thinking of dropping an OS 1.60. Any thoughts?

YS 140 FZ or L was what the plane was built around. The YS 140 Sport is the same basic engine as the 140FZ.

The model is very light and it was setup for the YS. Adding the 160 to it would take the CG pretty far forward and the pipe tunnel is not big enough for the 2 cycle pipes....It was designed around the 4 stroke pipes of the day.

Central Hobbies still sells some of these longer 4 stroke pipes. The short Hatori 821 that everybody seems to be going to nowadays is a little too large of diameter for that pipe tunnel. Central Sells a Johnson pipe that is longer and narrow like the pipes we used back then.

The plane was one of 4 that my buddy Jeff Carrish and I built back in spring of 99' We built basically 4 identical models. I flew one of them to 4th place at the 99' Nationals. And flew it for about a year in FAI class. It was a really good airframe. I think Jeff took 2nd or 3rd one year in Advanced with 2+2. He actually built two others before we built the 4 together. Jeff is really a Master Craftsman.

Jeff lives in Erie still and flies at Longmont and other spots in Northern Colorado. You should try to contact him regarding setup and questions. He is a local expert that is really good at this stuff.

Hi,

... Typhoon ... nice memories from the late 90`s ...

Mine was powered with os140+hattori std setup. futaba 9102 for both ail and elev. sanwa contest HP for rudd ( all analog servos)

Many people used YS140 FZ, a good combo, in fact ;better than my OS powered in my opinion ...

The Thyphoon had a special nice "lock-on" feeling, like a "gyro-controlled" performance-craft ...

Good luck, and enjoy!
