Default LA 2 set-up

Help!

I have a used LA 2 pattern plane and have no idea what initial control throws should be. Also would Cg be around the wing tube?

By the way how old is this design of plane?

Note: Looking at ads for this size of airplane in the early 90's, engine size is listed as 1.20.

Do I use a 91 or a 120?

Its setup up for a YS and weighs about 5lbs minus radio and engine.

Thanks! :stupid:

LA-2 is an early 90's design. I don't remember off the top of my head on the CG, but at worst, you would end up nose heavy by setting it up that way.

Default LA-2

I have an unbuilt original LA-2 in my workshop. I'll look at the plans soon as I can and post the C.G. position and throws (if listed), for you. My plan (if I ever get around to building it), is to use a YS .61 AR long stroke I kept around in it, but I imagine a YS .91 would make it perform better in verticals. A 120 might be a little overkill, and a bit heavy for this size airframe.
BTW, there is a company that still kits the LA-2:

The YS 91 was a great engine combo in a local flyers plane a few years back. He did great with it in Masters. Mucho POWER!!
and the weight was not an issue at 8.5 lbs and 850 square inches.

Default LA 2 set-up

I'm finishing covering an LA-2 tonight. I converted it to fixed gear and will be putting an OS .91FX in the nose. I can't wait to see what this engine will do in this airframe since it previously pulled a Stinger .60 straight up out of sight.

A YS .91FZ may make this plane a little nose heavy, but like GW said, it will certainly have the OOMPH.

The plans say to put the CG 8-3/4" forward of the trailing edge.

Control throws are:

Aileron: High Rate +/-11 degrees, Low Rate +/-9 degrees
Elevator: High, +10 deg., -11.5 deg. Low +6.5 deg, -8 deg.
Rudder: +/-30 degrees (or more)

Good luck measuring the 1/2 degree throws!! Me? I'm going to use the TLAR (That Looks About Right) method.

If you have any other questions, I have the plans and instruction booklet. Precision Aero Composites kits the plane, but I can send you the instruction book and plans if you need them since I'm done with them.

Default Beat me to it...

What Keith listed is the same as I have, Flyergirl. I just got to dig out the plans and manual today to have a look. I wouldn't sweat those half degrees either. Set throws so it feels good to YOU. That's what dual rates are for anyways.
We'd be interested in seeing photos of the finished project Keith.

Hi,

My dad is still flying one of these. Been going great for probably 12+ years now! I wish I was at home b/c I could get the throw and D/r info for you. This la2 was setup on a os61 w/ hatori pipe and apc 11x11 (?). It had PLENTY of pull and power for any routine (he used to fly the fai pattern). I wouldnt go with anything bigger.
