Default Keystone Indoor Electric Fly and F3P contest

The Keystone Indoor Electric Fly is being held Oct 18th & 19th. The KIEF will be held just outside of Williamsport, Pa in
the Generations Sports Complex Dome, the largest air suspended dome in the country.

An F3P contest wil be held in the F3P Contest area area in the dome on Sunday the 19th, from 8:00 AM-10:00 AM. We expect to fly two rounds in the time alloted.

Update: Due to the runway conditions being a bit difficult for smallish wheels and not at all condusive to skid landing gear, Takeoffs and Landings will all receive a 10.

Two schedules will be flown:

F3P-A
A1. Takeoff Sequence
A2. Reverse Cuban 8
A3. 1/4 Roll, 1/2 Circle, 1/4 Roll
A4. Loop w/ integrated 1/2 Roll on Top
A5. Stall Turn, 1/2 roll on exit (after push to horizontal)
A6. Triangle Loop w/ 1/2 Roll on Top Leg
A7. 1/2 Circle Inverted
A8. Rolling Circle (In or Out) w/ 1/1 Integrated Roll
A9. Top Hat w/ two 1/4 Rolls
A10. 2/4 Point Roll
A11 Push-Push-Pull Humpty Bump
A12. Torque Roll
A13. Landing Sequence

F3P-B
B1. Takeoff Sequence
B2. Flat Eight
B3. Loop
B4. Slow Roll
B5. Triangle Loop
B6. Knife Edge
B7. Square Loop
B8. 4 point Roll
B9. Landing Sequence

The contest format will follow guidance given here:
http://www.em06.ch/download/sc4.f3a.06.pdf

There's plenty more going on besides the F3P contest. Check out http://www.pafunfly.com for all the info. The event CD is Mark Vukmanovich and I will be helping out on the F3P event. Please try to respond to Mark or I, or just post a reply here so that we have an idea of who's coming and what schedule you will fly. Volunteers for judging will be appreciated!

Hey Ed, the links aren't working. Here's a link for the F3P-B schedule. I tried to upload the Fai Sporting code but it won't allow a PDF file.

Cool - that's an easy B sequence. I've been working on one that I found a while ago that had a 1-turn rolling circle. I can do that outdoors but indoors might be a little scary. This sequence looks more comfortable. Maybe I'll give it a shot. Guess I need to put my Clik together!.

Hey guys, just a reminder, the surface of the dome is a plush astro turf. With this in mind I picked up a 4' x 20' piece of rubber roofing material that will be our runway for the F3P. Make sure your planes have wheels and not skids as they only skid well on a gym surface, not astro turf or a rubber runway.

Thanks........Mark

Then just allow hand launching. Who says we have to roll off a surface on takeoff. You don't have to follow the rules to a tee.

Take offs and landings are judged but it doesn't matter to me. Ed Alt is overseeing the F3P. I'll check with him.

Joe, don't you think the runway would sufice? Should it be larger?

I think they are a zero or a 10.
After reviewing the situation with the runway material, we've decided to go ahead and not score landings and takeoffs. Everyone will receive 10 for these.

Sounds good! We'll have the runway there so anyone wishing to use it can. Most wheels roll okay on the turf but little tiny or thin can cause nose overs.

Got some more updates folks.

Luke's RC will be sponsoring a huge 8' x 10' flight simulator at the KIEF. How cool is that! We have the perfect room near their vendor booth with proper lighting to make it look great.

This same room will also be the area for a new contest Saturday evening for the new Blade MCX 2. These new Heli's are a huge success (just got mine today ). Luke and Sue will be hosting a "Timed Obstacle" course for the Mini Blade MCX.

Also be sure to check out the website for updates like the rules and specifics on the RC combat to be held Sunday afternoon. $10 a pilot, last plane flying takes all! Can't wait to see this one.

Sequence B has been modified. We have added a straight inverted flight after the Flat 8. This way it is more like a turnaround sequence where there are what would be upwind and downwind manuevers followed by a free turnaround. We will be using the P.A.C.S.S program which is used for scoring in pattern. B sequence will use 1/2 point scoring with 0 or 10 for takeoff and landing. The A sequence will follow F3P scoring guidelines with whole points.

If you plan on competing, feel free to send me a personal email, [email protected], with your name, AMA #, class you are flying, and radio frequency.
By sending me this info I can enter your information into the scoring program making my job much easier and the CD's job easier for planning purposes.

If you were there, you'll be back next year. If you missed it, you missed a good one. The facility is HUGE, and the event was well organized for the 75 flyers that attended (Huge thanks to Mark, Joe, Tony, and Ron and all the guys from the Muncy Indoor Club) and used a format very similar to the proven format of the JR Indoor.

Friday night, Dad and I loaded up the Van with 10 foamies, 4 micros, a CX2, and an MCX, and drove out. We flew pretty much nonstop from the start Saturday AM to close Sunday PM, with a few hours sleep Saturday night (dome was open all night for flying). Radical RC, Lukes, Liteflite, and several local hobbyshops had full inventories with them.

The dedicated micro was very busy, but was cleared for a couple hours for an F3P contest (classes A and B), which was CD'd by Ed Alt with scorekeeping by Joe Lachowski. To save time, we flew 2 sequences per flight, and completed 2 flights.

Regards,

Dave Lockhart

Many thanks to Ed, Joe and Dave for running the F3P event as well as the F3P seminar. It was a great contest and we had a lot of great flights. It's tougher than it looks to fly a precise sequence indoors. You all did a great job. We already are thinking through some items for next year to allow more F3P practice in a dedicated area. No doubt there will be more F3P pilots next year which will require more practice time.

Thanks again.............Mark

Dave and Ed,
Man I'm envious of you guys! What a great looking place to fly.
Do you think one of you could do a contest report in the K-Factor?
Especially background on how the contest came about, the site costs, etc.?
Thanks!

Default RE: Keystone Indoor Electric Fly and F3P contest

FWIW, Ed and I met with the director of the GSC Dome on Saturday and discussed the possibility of having a one day F3P contest there again sometime over the winter. This would be in the netted off section where the F3P contest took place (180' x 105' area) if there is enough interest (and I'm sure there will be ). Probably on a Sunday where we can get in in the morning, fly some practice rounds and then fly the contest in the mid afternoon. The idea is so most guys do not have to do an overnight if they don't have to.
