A Fashion 50 ARF would be my vote. A friend built one and I've flown it a few times. It flys really well with an OS 46 and is capable of any pattern schedule.

I have looked for some time trying to find a decent "current" design, but 50 sized models are not at all popular so I have found nothing as of yet. All of the recent, useful 50 sized pattern models are ARF's, unfortunately. If you can live with a kit, the Epsilon 40 is supposed to be a decent kit and solid performing airframe. I don't think there is anything else out there at the moment. Singapore Hobby used to have the Alliance and Synergy kits, but I they were out of stock a while ago. I don't know if they are back in stock or ever will be. With shipping, the price was high, as well.

If you find a set of plans, let me know, I would love to have one as well.

Ultrasport 40 Plus
http://www.greatplanes.com/airplanes/gpma0390.html
or what I used for my first step to pattern:
Tracer:

At the website page it says discontinued, but here http://www.greatplanes.com/airplanes/kits-glow.html it says they are back!
Also the "old" Ultrasport"!! That will make some people happy!
The Ultrasport 40 Plus and the Tracer fly very well on a Saito-72 or OS-46 or similar!

I will recommend you to consider a 90 size instead of a 50. The 90 size is more stable and the price tag is almost the same.

Henning

But what are the offerings in a 90 size kit? Maybe an Epsilon-90?

Hi Henning,
I guess you are right, i must go for a 90 size pattern ship. If any one has a good 90 size pattern plan please let me know..

I believe Mark Hunt (flyintexan on RCU) will print his Insight plans to 110 size and he can offer foam cores as well. Mark also has the Voodoo Express 2 for a 110-120 engine on his website. It can be purchased as a plans set only and Mark will cut cores for it. At least he has in the past, because I have a set sitting in my basement.

Mike Hester is working on a 110 sized Black Magic kit (I'm still waiting, Mike!
), but it will not be available as plans only.http://www.customairframes.com/
Very few competitive pattern planes are offered as a plan set, the field is almost all ARF's with a few kits. And those are pretty much all 2M sized. The Epsilon 60 kit is supposedly a decent airframe in the 90 size if you can live with a kit.

Spigas drawings are available for free from Ola Fremming’s web page. I’m still enjoying my Spigas 90 for offseason practise. I built it five years ago.

Another source for plans is my flying buddy Jon Wold. He collects F3A drawings. Drop him an email and ask him if he can send you a copy.
